Hao Busts O’Dwyer, Patgorski Extends Lead

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Steve O’Dywer has become the latest casualty to bring the field down to 15, getting all the chips in pre-flop against Su Hao.

Sitting on the button O’Dwyer was the man to pull the trigger first with {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} with Hao making the call from the big blind with {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{10-Spades} and O’Dywer headed for the rail while Hao stacked up to 245,000. While this is a chunky stack it is not the largest and it appears that Gabe Patgorski has taken some chips off Fedor Holz with the US player further extending his lead to what looks to be roughly 335,000 while Holz is sitting on around 135,000.

Holz’ fellow countryman Manig Loeser has also been busy and has run his stack up to around 200,000.

Post-break Chip Counts, Gipson Out as Patgorski Snags Lead

Niveau 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

While 18 players returned after the break, this quickly became 17 as we were scouting the room for chip counts, arriving at Keith Gipson’s table just in time to witness his demise.

Gipson moved the last of his chips in pre-flop (around 35,000) with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} with Gabe Patgorski making the call from the big blind with {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

“I’ll double you up,” chuckled Patgorski good naturedly as the cards were turned over and the two saw they were racing.

Gipson grimaced and said “It’s not good, I just saw the tip…” as the {a-Clubs} hit the window, with the rest of the board running out {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} to send Gipson to the rail and bring the field down to 17 while Patgorski climbed to 225,000, just snagging the chip lead from Holz.

The rest of the field is stacking up as follows:

Yong Squeezes for Victory, Wang Takes from Holz

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Richard Yong has just won a decent sized pot without showdown after squeezing out Winfred Yu and Xuan Tan. Pre-flop it was Yu who was the initial aggressor on the button, making it 5,300 to go.

Small blind Tan then re-raised to 13,000 in total only to see Yong quickly move all-in for 52,100. Yu folded immediately and Tan hit the think tank for a good couple of minutes before eventually electing to give it up leaving Yong free to scoop the 20,000-pot without showdown.

Fedor Holz has dropped some chips but still looks to be the current leader, though he has recently lost a hand to Zuo Wang. Pre-flop it was Holz who was the initial aggressor, making it 5,500 to go from under-the-gun before action folded around to Wang on the button.

The Chinese player took his time over it but chose to re-raise to 13,500 in total and after both the blinds bowed out the action was back on Holz, who made a quick call.

The {6-Hearts}{k-Spades}{a-Spades} flop saw Holz check the action over to Wang, who did not take long to continuation bet 11,000 and the German player folded instantly. Holz dropped to 200,000 after the hand and still remains in front while Wang climbed to 120,000 after the hand. Play has paused for a 15-minute break while the black 100 chips are raced off so stick around and we will return shortly.

Peters Doubles Gipson, Busts to Loeser, Cheong Wins From Wu

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
David Peters
David Peters

Despite doubling up earlier against Manig Loeser David Peters was unable to capitalize and took a big hit against Keith Gipson with all the chips finding their way into the middle pre-flop, with Peters the man to shove first with {a-}{9-} from the button and Gipson calling with {a-}{k-} from the big blind.

Gipson’s hand held and he climbed to 124,000 while Peters was left with 16,500. The US player managed to steal some blinds and antes but eventually fell afoul of Manig Loeser.

Peters moved all-in from the button for the last of his chips (around 8 big blinds) with {q-}{8-} and Loeser woke up in the small blind with {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, which held to see Loeser climb to 121,000 while Peters headed for the exit.

We caught the tail end of a sizable pot that had developed between former front-runner Benjamin Wu (big blind) and Cheok Ieng Cheong (under-the-gun) immediately after Peters’ exit.

There was already over 60,000 in blinds and antes in the pot with the community cards spread {7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Wu was mulling over his options as we arrived. Eventually, the US player elected to check it over to Cheong, who tanked for quite some time before checking it back.

We are not sure what the action was but evidently, Wu, holding {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} had convinced Cheong, holding {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}, that he had a hand significantly more impressive than a pair of sixes. The chunky pot was shipped Cheong’s way and he climbed to 150,000 while Wu dropped to 80,000 after the hand.

Greenwood Busts Yu, Yu Doubles Through Trickett

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Lucas Greenwood
Lucas Greenwood

There is now only one Yu left in the field with the departure of Liang Yu at the hands of Lucas Greenwood. It was a battle of the blinds that saw Yu’s tournament come to a close when action folded around to Greenwood in the small blind, who put the short-stacked Yu all-in pre-flop.

While he thought over his decision long and hard Yu elected to make the call for his tournament life and the cards were turned over.

Liang Yu: {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Lucas Greenwood: {q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

Yu gave a wry chuckle when Greenwood turned his hand over and he saw he was leading but unfortunately for the Chinese player, despite flopping a flush draw to go with his ace-high on the {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop the rest of the board ran out {8-Clubs} and {q-Spades} respectively to give Greenwood top pair and he climbed to 100,000 while Yu headed for the rail.

The field’s sole remaining Yu – Winfred Yu – managed to bag himself a double shortly afterward after moving all in from the small blind with {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} with Sam Trickett making the call from the big blind with {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

The board {8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} to grant Yu the double and he climbed to 49,600 while Trickett dropped to 32,000.

Peters Doubles Through Loeser

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

David Peters has been in push or fold mode for the last couple of orbits and has already stolen Manig Loeser and Keith Gipson’s big blinds once. When Peters moved all-in from the button on the second orbit Loeser made a speedy call and Peters, holding {a-}{3-} found himself trailing to Leoser’s {a-}{9-}.

However, Peter’s spiked a three on the flop, which held to double him up to 66,000 while Loeser dropped to 87,000.

Trickett Busts Juanda

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

There has been another casualty right at the start of the new level with Sam Trickett and John Juanda getting all the chips in pre-flop.

Unfortunately for Juanda his {8-}{8-} was trailing to Trickett’s {a-}{a-} and stayed that way and Trickett stacked up to 85,000 and the field is now down to 25.

The payouts have now been announced and we will endeavor to get that posted shortly with the first price coming in at a tasty HK$3,472,200 (~$444,850).
