Welcome to Day 2 of Triton Super High Roller Series Jeju Main Event

Mikita Badziakouski
Mikita Badziakouski

First eight hours of play are in the books for the HK$2,000,0000 ($255,000) Main Event at Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju. Dozens of the most renowned poker players cruised through the opening stage and 22 of them bagged their advancing stacks to continue in pursuit of one of the biggest prizes that will be awarded this year. With 42 entries already made, the prize pool is guaranteed to exceed $10 million and the number is likely to be boosted further.

Late registration for late arrivals and re-entries will run for three more levels. Players receive 250,000 in chips in return for the high buy-in and the next round will be played at 3,000/6,000 blinds with a 6,000 ante. So the starting stack still has a value of more than 40 bigs and that's still a solid baseline for those who join before the buzzer.

Those who have already increased their belongings through successful campaigns on Day 1 surely hope to avoid the dilemma of whether to rejoin or not and if there is still enough room to get some wind in their sails when entering with a starting stack with the tournament average already twice as high.

The current top three features players who have already fired two shells. Day 1 chip leader Sam Greenwood (865,000), Chan Wai Leong (790,000) and David Peters (742,000) are all in for just over half a million dollars. They managed to turn their second attempts into a promising field position.

2018 Triton Montenegro Main Event champion Mikita Badziakouski was among those who were able to navigate to the top half of the rankings without stopping at the registration desk more than once. Badziakouski eliminated Steve O'Dwyer at the latter stage of the day, vaulting to the chip lead at the time. He eventually finished with 707,000, the sixth largest stack on the leaderboard.

According to Winfred Yu, it might be a good thing to attract a bigger turnout. Yu was Badziakouski's nearest challenger in the last level. Sitting on a neighboring table, Yu observed that he was tied with Badziakouski for the lead.

"If Mikita is the chip leader, nobody will enter tomorrow. If I'm the chip leader, people will be lining up to register!" Yu laughed. Neither of the two was able to secure the pole position but Yu won the virtual heads-up race, bagging 731,000.

Yu didn't offer an opinion on how would Sam Greenwood's name at the top impact the late registration. But we'll find the answer in the coming hours so tune back to PokerNews for continuous live updates. The action resumes at 2 p.m. local time (11 p.m. ET).

Triple for Katz

Niveau 9 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Cary Katz
Cary Katz

Sam Greenwood opened on the button with a raise to 20,000 and Cary Katz called in the small blind. Jason Koon then made it 100,000 in the big blind and both Greenwood and Katz called.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{4-Spades} and Katz checked to Koon who put out a bet of 76,000. Greenwood called while Katz moved all in for 32,000, less than the bet creating a side pot with heads up action.

Both Koon and Greenwood checked on the {A-Clubs} turn and the {2-Diamonds} river.

Greenwood showed his {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} but Katz showed his {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to win the main pot. Koon almost mucked thinking he'd lost it all but Katz warned him and Koon showed his {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} to take down the side pot.

Patgorski Sent to the Rail by Badziakouski

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Gabe Patgorski
Gabe Patgorski

Mikita Badziakouski opened under the gun with a raise to 17,000 holding {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. Gabe Patgorski was in the hijack seat and he three-bet to 56,000 with {J-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Action folded back to Badziakouski who just called.

The flop came down {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Badziakouski opted to lead out, making it 40,000. Patgorski thought for a while then moved all in for 347,000. Badziakouski called after giving it some thought.

Badziakouski had the best made hand with a pair of nines, but Patgorski could hit a ten or jack to take the pot, and even a five to chop. The board completed with the {K-Diamonds} and the {K-Clubs} and that meant that Patgorski would be eliminated while Badziakouski moved over 1,600,000 chips.

Mikita Badziakouski: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The board would run out {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and it was bad from the flop from Yong as Badziakouski flopped a set. Yong never caught up and he was sent to the rail.

Sam Greenwood opened to 30,000 from the hijack with {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Phil Ivey shoved from the cutoff with {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for 231,000. Action folded back to Greenwood and he called putting Ivey at risk with his covering stack.

The board ran out {K-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Greenwood would river overkill, making a set against Ivey to send him to the rail. Greenwood took down the pot and chipped up to over 1,700,000 while Ivey was sent home after a brutal week of tournament poker for him.

Chan Takes Care of Nitsche

Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

Chan Wai Leong raised to 40,000 in the small blind and Dominik Nitsche defended his big blind.

The flop came down {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Chan bet 52,000. Nitsche double checked his hand and then moved all in for 195,000. Unfortunately for him, Chan had an easy call to make with {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

Nitsche had {K-Spades}{8-Hearts} and hoped to see some of his five outs on the turn or river but the {J-Diamonds} and {7-Hearts} sent him packing.

Nitsche was eliminated in 17th place and the remaining players were redrawn to the last two tables.

Andrew Robl appeared to be all in before the flop for 184,000 and he had been called by Luc Greenwood with a covering stack.

Andrew Robl: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}
Luc Greenwood: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and that put a real possibility of a chop on the board but the turn was the {8-Spades} and the river was the {2-Hearts} meaning that with his ace-ten kicker, Greenwood would take down the pot and eliminate Robl from the tournament.

CoverPoker - The Next Generation of Poker Software for Players and Tournament Directors

Niveau 13 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Mickael Milliat - CoverPoker
Mickael Milliat - CoverPoker

Over the course of this week, the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju has been implementing a new kind of poker program into their tournament series - CoverPoker. CoverPoker is an expansive new piece of technology that not only covers the registration portion of tournament, but the payouts, seating, and everything else as well. It's an expansive new program that in the future will allow players to input their chips counts for public viewing. And the test market is right here, at the Triton Super High Roller Series.

"We use CoverPoker Pro which is one part of CoverPoker," Mickael Milliat, the CEO and creator of CoverPoker said. "CoverPoker Pro is the management part of the software. So it allows you to manage all the aspects of a poker room. All the aspects of an event."

Currently, the Triton series is only using the management portion of the program, but in the future, it will incorporate more and into the platform. Milliat's goals with the company are to create a program that allows poker to be a more interactive experience for players and fans, and he thinks his program will lead the way.

"What I want to do with CoverPoker is to make every part of the tournament interact with each other," Milliat said. "So the managers, the players, the media, and the followers as well."

By the end of the year Milliat wants to be able to release a public version of the app that would allow poker fans to view what's going on in a tournament in real time. That app would allow you to see updated registration list, prizepools, chip counts, and updates all in one place. At the same time, it would allow tournament staff to control and manage a tournament on the other end of the software, all at the same time.

Tournament CEO at Triton Charlie Ciresi has been working with the Milliat for many years and now that the program is getting closer to a release, he thought it was time to implement it into a bigger setting. Ciresi thinks an app like this has been needed for a long time.

"It will be completely interactive with the players and also with operation sites," Ciresi said. "The operation sites that will be secured, and for the public, they'll be able to update the chip counts and social media. And it tracks all the players. The World Series of Poker tried a similar operating system few years back with ChipTic. Their ideas were good but Michael has perfected it with CoverPoker and it will be really good for the industry."

While CoverPoker isn't available for public use just yet, it's well on its way and Triton has been the perfect testing ground for it. You can learn more about the program by visiting CoverPoker.com.
