New Chip Leader; Calamusa Already Eyeing Up Final Table

Niveau 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Pierre Calamusa
Pierre Calamusa

Mike Alonso has dropped back from his peak, allowing Bruno Mandagaran to take over the chip lead with a stack in excess of 300,000. The Frenchman only has two Hendon Mob cashes, both in Morocco, from 2008 and 2009 and is well placed for another one.

Meanwhile, Pierre Calamusa is sitting on a healthy stack of 105,000; just over average. Calamusa is one of only six players wearing the hats gifted to them by Winamax at the start of the day, and we mentioned that to him.

"They are the final table," he said with a grin.

Tedeschi & Abecassis Join the Field

Paul-Francois Tedeschi
Paul-Francois Tedeschi

Paul-Francois Tedeschi is riding high after winning a flipout to secure a coveted Platinum Pass at EPT Monte Carlo, but while he waits to play a $25,000 tournament in January, he is sampling the fun and games of the €550 Winamax Sismix Main Event.

Meanwhile, Michel Abecassis has also joined the SISMIX Main Event field. The Winamax Team Pro finished ninth in the inaugural SISMIX, but since then has only registered a solitary cash at the festival, coming in last year's High Roller (20th - 27,000 MAD).

Field Approaching 300

Niveau 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Day 1a of the Winamax SISMIX Main Event currently has 272 entrants, and after nine levels there are just 126 players remaining. It might appear that 300 is within reach, but there is only one level left of re-entry and late registration.

After registration closes, there will be on level left before players go on a 75-minute dinner break. After they return from dinner, there will be just three levels remaining until the end of Day 1a.

Alonso Falls Back While Petrauskas Soars

Mike Alonso and Mantas Petrauskas' table was breaking, and it appeared that one had clearly handed chips over to the other. Alonso was once the chip leader with over 300,000 after eliminating Mike D'Inca earlier in the tournament, but had half that amount with Petrauskas taking over 400,000 to his new seat.

Calamusa Chips Up

Niveau 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

On a {3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades} board Pierre Calamusa check-called a bet of 4,000 from his opponent. The river was the {2-Spades} and Calamusa checked and his opponent checked behind.

His opponent showed {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for two pair, threes and twos. Calamusa showed {q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a full house and his opponent shook his head and mouthed "Wow" as Calamusa took down the pot.

Registration has closed on Day 1a of the 2018 Winamax SISMIX Main Event with a total of 276 entries (including 45 re-entries). This is a 27% increase on last year's numbers, and means that another record attendance is likely here in Marrakech.
