Winamax Sismix Marrakesh
Winamax Sismix Marrakesh

Welcome to Day 1a of the Winamax Sismix! This is the fifth edition of the event, held at the beautiful Es Saadi Resort in Marrakech.

If previous years are anything to go by, a record field is expected with numbers increasing steadily year on year, and the special six-handed tables here at the Casino de Marrakech already full of players.

Big names and Winamax Pros such as Mustapha Kanit and Romain Lewis are here, along with recent EPT National winner Guillaume Diaz, former champions Davidi Kitai and Jerome Sgorrano, as well as many more players looking to add their names to the list of champions here in Marrakech.

Special Prizes in the Main Event

For players in the Main Event, there are series of special prizes to keep an eye out for.

The first eliminations on Day 1a, 1b and 1c will receive entry to Saturday evening's hyper-turbo event. Later in the tournament, the bubble boy will receive an entry into next year's Winamax Sismix event.

If you have a Winamax Team Pro at your table and you eliminate them, not only do you win a special commemorative button stating that you knocked them out, but you also win a bottle from the TheatrO nightclub during the Sismix.

There is also a bad beat jackpot; if you lose with quads or better you will win entry into next year's Winamax Sismix event. And, if that wasn't enough, there is a good beat jackpot as well! If you make a straight flush with both the cards in your hand, you win a bottle from the TheatrO nightclub during the Sismix.

First Elimination of the Day

Philipp Anclevic
Philipp Anclevic

We noticed Philipp Anclevic leaving the tournament room, after handing over the remainder of his chips to Mike Alonso, who now sits on over 100,000 in chips.

Anclevic spoke briefly to our French colleagues, who explained how he lost his chips in such a short space of time. According to Anclevic, after a bluff gone wrong, he got his remaining chips in with top pair only to lose out to the two pair of Alonso.

He also explained that he felt like a Herbiers player against a field of 1,000 Paris Saint-[Removed:361] players - an apt metaphor, with the French third tier side losing 3-0 to PSG in the final of the Coupe de France last night.

"I will stay until Sunday, and I intend to enjoy myself. Whatever happens, I will not be bored!"

As the first elimination on Day 1a, Anclevic won a small consolation prize - entry into Event #26 - the Hyper Turbo on Saturday night.

Top Shark Academy Winner Adrien Delmas in the Field

Niveau 4 : 250/500, 75 ante
Adrien Delmas
Adrien Delmas

Adrien Delmas joined the Winamax Team Pro stable in January 2018 after winning his way through the Top Shark Academy. This seven-week long competition involved both poker and theory tests, making candidates prove their mettle against both their fellow candidates and established Winamax team Pros.

At the end of the competition, Delmas emerged triumphant and joined the Winamax Team for a year with a €50,000 package to play certain events throughout the year including both the High Roller and the Main Event here at the Winamax SISMIX.

Delmas had impressed on the live felt, even before he won the Top Shark Academy. In 2014, aged just 19, he finished 4th in the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event for €28,569. Then, in 2016, he finished third 3rd in the Winamax SISMIX High Roller for 155,000 MAD ($15,835).

Finally, last year he took down the Winamax Poker Open Dublin High Roller for €35,370. Now seated in the SISMIX Main Event, it remains to be seen whether he will be Top Shark here in Marrakech.

Anas Tadini is third on the Moroccan all-time money list, behind WPT Champion Farid Yachou and bracelet-winner William Kakon. He has taken his seat in the Winamax SISMIX Main Event, and was seen hugging Winamax Team Pro Pierre Calamusa who has also joined the field.

Calamusa's biggest cash of his career was a fifth place in the EPT 12 Monte Carlo Main Event for €233,800. He also won the 2015 Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event for €70,000, and was third in last year's Winamax SISMIX High Roller for 282,000 MAD ($28,076).

Winamax SISMIX Pool Parties

Here at the Winamax SISMIX there is an incredibly packed tournament schedule of nine intensive days of poker here at the Casino de Marrakech at the Es Saadi Marraech Resort. However, that's not the only reason why hundreds of players from around Europe head to the SISMIX.

The clue is in the name - Mix! There are pool parties and nights throughout the week, with different themes and styles of music. From house and hip-hop days, to ladies day and a special Live day.

Acts who have played over the week include Bakermat, DJ Angelo, Dual Beat, DJ James, Nicolas Monier, Stone Van Broken, Sara Lugo, Ayanne, Mymy, DJ Kol, Super Mana, Miss Owl and more.

For the full schedule head to the Winamax SISMIX website here or just check out the video below:

Lewis Enjoying Marrakech; High Roller Down to Two Tables

Romain Lewis

The Winamax SISMIX High Roller is down to two tables, and there is a veritable selection of poker talent still involved and looking to take down the title and ~€57,000 for first place.

Here is the table draw for the final two tables:

We caught up with Romain Lewis as he was taking a break after the two table redraw.

"The High Roller was going sweet," he said, "Until 18 left and I had 30 big blinds. Now there's 12 left."

Lewis is a Winamax Team Pro and has been coming to the Winamax SISMIX for the last three years, cashing in 2016 & 2017. He says that the tournament mixes poker with holiday really well.

"I know that they do a lot for online players; they do anything to make players happy to come. I know people who play online who do two live tournaments a year - the Winamax Poker Open in Dublin, and the Winamax SISMIX in Marrakech.

"They know that they will be well received and the tournaments are six-handed. Well, they're actually four or five-handed most of the time. You don't get six-handed tournaments that much anywhere."

The tournament also has special custom-made six-handed tables, and Lewis says they're very comfortable to play at!

"There's action all the time," he said. "That's why a lot of the players come to play here at these events. You're always in a hand and always active."

"And when you bust you have some more side events, but there's also beautiful Marrakech with pool parties and the TheatrO too. The sun is out; a lot of people will go and grind SCOOP after this, but it's also nice to come and relax and chill here.

Alonso Over 300k Already!

Mike Alonso

It's been an incredible day so far for Mike Alonso; eliminating Philipp Anclevic for the first elimination of the day, and chipping up more over the course of the first six levels or so.

He's just sent Mike D'Inca to the rail as well. In a four-bet pot, the flop came king-high with three hearts. D'Inca checked to Alonso who bet. D'Inca check-raised, and then called an all in from Alonso.

D'Inca showed pocket kings for top set, but Alonso held {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a flopped flush. There was no help on the turn or river and D'Inca was eliminated, boosting Alonso's stack.

You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone with a bigger stack than Alonso's in the room right now, with the average only 85,000.

New Chip Leader; Calamusa Already Eyeing Up Final Table

Mike Alonso has dropped back from his peak, allowing Bruno Mandagaran to take over the chip lead with a stack in excess of 300,000. The Frenchman only has two Hendon Mob cashes, both in Morocco, from 2008 and 2009 and is well placed for another one.

Meanwhile, Pierre Calamusa is sitting on a healthy stack of 105,000; just over average. Calamusa is one of only six players wearing the hats gifted to them by Winamax at the start of the day, and we mentioned that to him.

"They are the final table," he said with a grin.
