Phil Ivey Knocked Out in the Round of 64

Niveau 13 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey opened the button for 2,500 and big blind Daniel McAulay three-bet to 10,500. Ivey shoved for 85,000 and McAulay called.

Phil Ivey: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Daniel McAulay: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The flop hit McAulay with {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Phil Ivey already got up from his seat. As the {7-Spades} hit the turn, Ivey wished his opponent good luck in the next round.

"Or,... poof!" Ivey said as the dealer burned and completed the board. It would've made for a cool scene had the river been a nine, but instead it was the {A-Hearts} making McAulay trips and sealing Ivey's fate.

"Good game," McAulay said as Ivey got up and left through the back door of the Amazon Room.

Steele Busts Seidel

Niveau 10 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Seidel was in the lead for most of the day, but things went south for him quickly. First he doubled his opponent Michael Steele with ace-eight to ace-three pre-flop all in; a three hit the turn. About 10 minutes later, it was all over for Seidel.

Starting with about 29,000 in chips, Seidel limped the button. Steele checked.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{2-Spades} and both players checked.

The {K-Hearts} on the turn paired the board and Steele checked again. Seidel bet 3,000 and Steele announced all in. Seidel thought about it for just a bit before he called.

Steele showed {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Seidel double checked his cards before throwing them face down in the middle of the table, indicating he was drawing dead. The dealer knew enough and did not deal another card, no river was seen.

Seidel out, Steele through to the round of 64.

Niveau 9 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
John Smith
John Smith

It won't be three consecutive second-place finishes for John Smith.

Kane Kalas raised to 4,800 from the button and Smith called from the big blind.

The flop came down {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, Smith led for 10,000, and Kalas called after a few moments.

The turn was the {3-Clubs}, Smith shoved for about 19,000, and Kalas called quickly with {A-Spades}{4-Hearts} for a pair of aces. Smith was drawing dead with {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, rendering the {6-Diamonds} river moot.

Ivey Knocks Out Chidwick

Niveau 6 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Stephen Chidwick raised to 2,600, Phil Ivey three-bet to 9,000. Chidwick responded with a shove for about 37,000 which Ivey snap-called.

Stephen Chidwick: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Phil Ivey: {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades} to counterfeit Chidwick's pocket pair and give Ivey the win with the king-kicker. Ivey got up from the table immediately to get a break before the next round starts at 6 p.m.

Zinno Beats Bicknell

Niveau 5 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

Anthony Zinno limped the button for 1,000 and Kristen Bicknell shoved for around 21,000. Zinno thought about it for a bit before he called.

Kristen Bicknell: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Anthony Zinno: {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The flop brought something for both with {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. While Zinno had paired up, Bicknell was actually the favorite with her open-ended straight flush draw.

Unfortunately for Bicknell, though, the {2-Diamonds} on the turn and {K-Diamonds} on the river were blanks.

Bicknell hugged Zinno while congratulating him.

"Hey, he never hugs me when he beats me!" Bill Klein said over on the other table.

Bicknell and Zinno laughed as the former made her way to the exit while the latter hung around to get the paperwork done for Round 2.

Riess Beats Morgenstern

Niveau 3 : 300/600, 0 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Ryan Riess was seen talking to Alex Foxen, so we asked him if he had won or lost his match against Anton Morgenstern.

With a sinister smile, Riess told us he had gotten it in with {K-}{10-} against {J-}{4-} on {K-}{J-}{4-}. Riess was behind, though we're not sure how much Morgenstern had left at that point.

Morgenstern was the favorite to double up, but the {Q-} on the turn in combination with the {9-} on the river made for a different ending to the hand. Riess backdoored into a straight, Morgenstern said his goodbyes.
