Vivian Saliba is among the notables to advance to Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Event #19: $565 Pot-Limit Omaha. Friday's two Day 1 flights saw a combined total of 2,419 runners.

Of the 2,419 vying for a bracelet, just 100 of them return at 2 p.m. local time to continue their quest for WSOP gold. Play on Day 2 will consist of ten 60-minute levels, unlike Day 1, which played through eighteen 30-minute levels.

Leading the pack is Christopher Trang with 402,000. He's the only one to eclipse the 400,000 mark, and only four players managed to bag over 300,000 with Jeffrey Gibson (374,000), Anuj Bahl (357,000), Florian Strasser (333,000), and Peter Linton (309,000 ) respectively.

Although many well-known players like Jeff Gross, Barry Greenstein, and Chris Ferguson failed to find a bag at the end of Day 1, several did, including Loni Harwood, (218,000), Ludovic Geilich (195,000), Jonathan Duhamel (123,000), JC Tran (73,000), and Vivian Saliba (73,000).

Ryan Laplante, champion of this event in 2016, also secured a bag and brings in a healthy stack of 180,000. Check back here for updates on all the Day 2 action from the PokerNews live reporting team.

Racener Eliminated by Gordon

Niveau 19 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
John Racener
John Racener

John Racener and John Gordon were engaged in a battle of the blinds when we got to the table. Racener was in the big with a barely covering stack and the two players got all the chips in before the flop, creating a pot of about 275,000.

John Racener: {K-}{K-}{X-}{X-}
John Gordon: {A-}{A-}{X-}{X-}

Gordon had the preflop advantage and Racener needed to improve in order to stack him. The board ran out five high, connecting with neither player, so Gordon took the pot to leave Racener with crumbs.

Two hands later, Racener got the last of his stack in from the button against Gordon and Gregory Wood. Both players checked all the way down on the {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board, and when all the hands were tabled, Gordon's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Spades} was best, so he took the pot to end Racener's run in this event.

Ngoc Nguyen

Ngoc Nguyen raised to 40,000 and Craig Varnell raised pot from the button for the majority of Nguyen's remaining 200,000 stack. Nguyen moved the rest of his chips in the middle and Varnell called.

Nguyen flipped up {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} versus Varnell's {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

The flop came down {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} with Nguyen in good shape for a double-up. The {8-Spades} gave Varnell a flush draw with the {4-Spades} river completing it sending Nguyen the next one to the payout cage.

Florian Strasser got his stack in the middle before the flop against Seth Zimmerman, who had him covered by a fair margin.

Florian Strasser: {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Spades}
Seth Zimmerman: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

Zimmerman had the preflop advantage and Strasser needed to improve to survive. Both players made sets on the {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop, and neither the {4-Clubs} turn nor {7-Diamonds} river was any help to Strasser, so Zimmerman took the pot to end Strasser's run in this event.

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, Hamilton moved all-in for his remaining 160,000 and Gordon snap-called tabling {6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for top two pair putting Hamilton's {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Clubs} in bad shape.

The turn {2-Clubs} and river {5-Hearts} brought Hamilton no help and he made his way to the rail.

John Roverto was in the cutoff and got his short stack in before the flop against Anuj Bahl, who was in middle position and had him covered by a wide margin.

John Roverto: {K-Diamonds}{K-}{Q-Diamonds}{5-}
Anuj Bahl: {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

Roverto had the preflop advantage and Bahl needed to improve in order to stack him. The flop fell {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to give Roverto a king-high flush and Bahl the nut flush. Neither the {7-Hearts} turn nor {3-Hearts} river changed anything, so Bahl took the pot to end Roverto's run in this event.

With the action folding to Jonathan Duhamel in the small blind, he opened to 72,000 with Ryan Laplante calling the big blind for about half of his remaining stack.

The two saw a flop of {J-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and Duhamel bet the last 75,000 of Laplante's stack. Not taking long Laplante made the call, tabling {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Duhamel showed {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} currently in the lead with a pair of nines. The turn {A-Hearts} improved Duhamel's pair to aces, and the river {A-Diamonds} ended the repeat dreams of Laplante, former champion of this event in 2016.
