The first non-Hold'em Event of the 2018 World Series of Poker kicks off today at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with Day 1 of Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better. Some of the biggest names in mixed games are expected to take a shot at the elusive golden bracelet and the defending champion of the event is Benjamin Zamani.

One year ago, American poker pro Zamani defeated a 905-entry strong field to claim the lion's share of the $1,221,750 prize pool with a top prize of $238,620 and his second WSOP bracelet. The current year has also been kind to Zamani already, as he emerged victorious once more in Las Vegas after taking down the WSOP Circuit $1,675 Main Event at Planet Hollywood for $192,152 and his first WSOP Circuit ring.

All players receive 7,500 in chips to start and the levels last 60 minutes each. Day 1 will feature a total of 10 levels with a 15-minute break every two levels and the late registration closes at the start of Level 9 at approximately midnight local time. The three-day tournament will play down to a champion on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018.

The first bracelet winner of the 2018 WSOP has already been crowned in the early morning hours, as Elio Fox joined the two-time champion's club after his victory in Event #2: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold'em. Event #1: $565 Casino Employees No Limit Hold'em will play down to a champion starting at 12 p.m. local time and one hour prior to that, Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout gets underway.

Johns and Semin Win Pots

Niveau 1 : 50/100, 0 ante
Ian Johns
Ian Johns

Mikhail Semin, Russian poker commentator and mixed game enthusiast, has had a rather bad start into Day 1 but just chipped up in a four-way pot to get back close to the starting stack.

On the river of a board {Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Spades}, he check-called a bet out of the small blind and ended up in the showdown against three other players with {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for the nut low. Barry Marfleet ended up scooping the high portion of the pot with {Q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for a full house, while another player had a straight with five-six.

Ian Johns also boosted his stack. He bet the {K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop and picked up one caller. After the {6-Diamonds} turn, his sole opponent bet and Johns raised, the other player in the hand called. The {K-Hearts} on the river brought a single bet by Johns and a call, the three-time WSOP bracelet winner rolled over {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for the ace-high flush and that won the pot.

Cousineau Involved Early On

Tony Cousineau
Tony Cousineau

On the four-way flop of {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, action checked to Tony Cousineau and he bet while saying "I have a really strong hand." All three opponents called and Cousineau sighed "wow that really helped." After the {4-Clubs} turn, Cousineau bet once more and this time just Scott Mackowski called while Don Zewin and another player folded. "Two wise players," Cousineau joked.

After the {K-Clubs} river, Mackowski bet and folded to a raise by Cousineau. Since then, the stack of the American has taken a hit and he dropped below the starting stack. A few tables over are Kate Hoang, Andrew Yip and Aditya Prasetyo all seated together. Yip has had the best start of the trio and almost doubled his stack already.

On the river of a board {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Tal Hart bet in the cutoff and Christopher Vitch raised on the button. Hart snap-called to see Vitch announce the nut low and two pair, then turned over {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Hart was somewhat confused, double-checked his cards and mucked.

Zekus rolled over {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for quad kings, Bach nodded and mucked his hand.

Three Quarters for Madsen; Matusow Short

Niveau 5 : 125/250, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Leif Force opened the action with a raise, Mike Matusow called from the cutoff, John Robison called from the small blind and Jeff Madsen called from the big blind.

The flop was {A-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Madsen opted to lead out. Force folded, Matusow called and Robison called. On the {3-Diamonds} turn, Robison checked, Madsen bet, Matusow folded, Robison made it two bets, Madsen three bets and Robison called.

The {6-Diamonds} river got check-called by Robison. Madsen showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for a flush and the nut low, Robison could only match the nut low with {9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} and ended up with a quarter of the pot. Matusow slipped to 2,025 after the hand and is in the red zone.

Matusow Doubles Up

Niveau 6 : 150/300, 0 ante
Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

It was a matter of time before Mike Matusow would stick his final chips in and the moment just arrived. On a {2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, "The Mouth" committed his last 1,225 and John Robison matched the amount.

Mike Matusow: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}
John Robison: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}

Matusow needed to fade quite some cards but the {Q-Diamonds} on the turn certainly wasn't one of the scary ones, instead improving the four-time bracelet winner to a full house. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Matusow doubled up.

"My fellow Trumpie keeping me afloat!" Matusow cheered after the hand.

Turner Builds Stack

Niveau 7 : 200/400, 0 ante
Jon Turner
Jon Turner

William Todd raised from early position and was called by Jon Turner and big stack Joseph Brodsky in the small blind. The flop fell {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Brodsky checked. Todd bet and had half a bet behind, Turner checked his stack and raised, Brodsky called and Todd called all in. After the {6-Hearts} turn, it was Turner that bet and the Brodsky check-called.

The {K-Spades} river was checked and Todd showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{A-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Turner had {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a low and Brodsky showed {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for the better two pair to eliminate Todd.

One hand later, Turner's raise was called three ways and Turner was one of two players to check-call a bet by Brodsky on the button on a flop of {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Turner then remained the only player to check-call on the {8-Hearts} turn and {2-Diamonds} river to get shown {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for a low and busted flush draw. Turner had the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for the same low and a pair to scoop three quarters.

Since Turner is in the seat that formerly belonged to Sorel Mizzi, it confirms the elimination of the latter.

Kassela's Big Stack; Chait's Comeback; Freedman Doubles; Elezra Below Starting Stack

Niveau 7 : 200/400, 0 ante
Craig Chait
Craig Chait

"Did you really just call a ridiculous river bet with the ace-ten?" Frank Kassela joked over to Craig Chait and the latter nodded, having scooped the pot with a pair and a busted nut flush draw after his {A-Spades}{10-Spades} had flopped middle pair. His opponent was going for the spades, too, but bricked off with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}.

The next hand brought even more fireworks. "Can I get a new table please?" a short-stacked Wendy Freedman asked with a smile on her face. That was before a three-way flop came {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}. Chait bet in the hijack, the cutoff called and Freedman raised. Chait made it four bets and both opponents called. On the {Q-Hearts} turn, Chait bet and the cutoff called, Freedman raised and picked up two calls. The {K-Diamonds} river completed the board and Chait bet once more, the cutoff called. Freedman called all in for her last 500 chips and the cards were turned over.

Freedman showed {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts} for a nine-high straight and a low. Chait had {A-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs} for the same straight while the cutoff flashed {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a worse straight. Freedman got three-quarters of the pot and doubled while Chait claimed the side pot.

"Can you write that I have below starting stack?" Eli Elezra inquired, and Kassela asked whether or not he was among the chip leaders. The counts of all are now up to date as a result, Chait had been down to a mere 1,100 chips not long ago and now has more than ten times that.

On the four-way turn of {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}, both players in the blinds checked over to Joseph Brodsky and he bet. Benny Glaser let go in the cutoff and just Gary Kosakowski called in the small blind.

The {4-Clubs} fell on the river and Kosakowski check-called a bet to get shown the {A-Spades}{K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for top two by Brodsky, which ended up winning the pot.
