Some Updated Counts Through the First Two Levels of the Day

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

Engel Takes Most of Couden's Chips

Niveau 12 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

The board showed {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades} in a three-way pot between Ari Engel, Joseph Couden, and one other player. Action checked around to the button where Couden put out a bet of 14,400. Engel was in the blinds and he decided to check-raise to pot, making it 57,600. The other player in the hand folded and Couden thought only briefly before deciding to call.

Engel showed down his {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for a low and two pair. Couden mucked his hand and was left with just about 9,000. He was eliminated shortly after.

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

Mike Matusow had 27,000 worth of bets out in front of him in a heads up pot against Joseph Michael. The board was {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and Michael decided to move all in for a bit less than the size of the pot. Matusow dropped into the tank and thought over the hand for a long while before he finally decided to let go of his hand.

"Good fold," Michael said after the hand. He flashed his cards to Matusow, showing and ace and a three and Matusow tapped the table in approval. Michael Mckenna, who was also at the table, made a comment that Matusow should've definitely called, even knowing what Joseph Michael was holding.

Matusow was left short after the hand, with only 22,000 and was sent to the rail just a few hands after that.

Simao Takes Three-Quarters of a Big Pot

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Both Joao Simao and Scott Bohlman had 21,600 worth of bets in front of them on the turn with the board showing {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Bohlman was first to act and he checked to Simao. Simao decided to bet, making it 11,800 total. Bohlman thought it over for a bit, then called.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and Bohlman thought for about thirty seconds before checking. Simao then cut out a bet of 57,700 and pushed it foward. Bohlman goraned then called.

Joao Simao: {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Scott Bohlman: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

Simao rivered a flush as well as the nut low and that would earn him three-quarters of the big pot as Bohlman only had a pair of aces and the nut low as well. The two chopped the low pot while Simao scooped the high pot for a nice chunk.

Bryce Yockey
Bryce Yockey

Phil Galfond opened from the cutoff with a raise to 5,000 and he was called by Barny Boatman in the small blind and Bryce Yockey in the big blind.

The flop was {K-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs} and action checked around to the {6-Clubs} on the turn. There, Boatman led out with a bet of 7,500 which both Galfond and Yockey called.

On the {7-Clubs} river, Boatman slowed down with a check. Yockey then put out a bet of 17,500 and Galfond folded. Boatman mulled it over a while too then folded as well, allowing the defending champion of this event to take down the pot and chip up to nearly 150,000.

Shane Doubles Through Schulman

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Nick Schulman opened with a raise to 4,000 and he was called by Sebastian Langrock on the button. Action folded to the big blind where David Shane moved all in 17,000 total. Schulman called while Langrock folded.

Nick Schulman: {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
David Shane: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} and that allowed Shane's aces to hold up, earning him a double. Schulman has had a good start to the day though, increasing his stack by nearly five times what he started with, so the small dent didn't hurt him too much.

Coats Doubles Through Hachem

Niveau 11 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Adam Coats raised to 7,000 before the flop and Joe Hachem called in the big blind.

The flop was {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Coats moved all in and Hachem called.

Adam Coats: {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Joe Hachem: {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

The flop gave Coats two pair while Hachem just had a straight draw. The turn was the {J-Hearts} and the river was the {7-Clubs} and that gave Hachem an inferior two pair, so Coats would double through.
