Feature Tables: Altman and Mizrachi Crushing; Galfond Takes a Hit

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

While Brian Altman crushes the secondary table, Michael Mizrachi does so on the main feature table. Over on the third table are Kevin Boudreau, Scotty Nguyen and Ryan Leng.

On the secondary table, Farah Galfond just called a raise by Jeffrey Tanouye and looked up the shove of the short stack on a flop of {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Galfond had {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Tanouye turned over the {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. Galfond picked up a gutshot on the {6-Spades} turn, but the {5-Diamonds} river was a blank to let Tanouye double for 25,300.

[Removed:565] Loses a Chunk

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Just before the break, [Removed:564] was sitting in the small blind and doubled his opponent in the cutoff up with {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} against the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} of his opponent.

The board ran out {10-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} for his opponent to hit two pair on the flop and [Removed:565] was left with less than the starting stack of the tournament.

On one of the other tables, fellow countryman, Jasper Meijer van Putten was eliminated before the break.

Another One for Waxman

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Matt Waxman opened to 3,000 under the gun. The player on the button and the big blind called.

A flop reading {9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{q-Spades} was dealt. The big blind and Waxman checked. The player on the button threw in a bet of 4,300. The big blind folded. Waxman called.

The turn brought the {j-Clubs} and was checked through to the {5-Spades} river. Again, both players checked. Waxman tabled {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} to rake in the pot and his opponent sent his hand to the muck.

Hicks Gunning for the Lead; Hegele Out

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Eric Hicks
Eric Hicks

Eric Hicks had gathered quite some attention from the ESPN cameras, claiming to be the chip leader, and he indeed has been hovering near the top of the counts. Just now he knocked out an opponent with aces versus eights when both hit a set, then folded to an open-shove for 35,000 and mucked the {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} out of the big blind face up.

Not in anymore is Germany's Robin Hegele, who walked out of the tournament area and explained that his four-bet shove with pocket tens was called by an opponent with queen-jack suited, a queen appeared on the flop and that was it for the 27th place finisher of the previous year.

Foxen's Bluff Fails

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Jeffrey Chang made it 2,300 in middle position and Alex Foxen three-bet to 11,300 out of the small blind. Chang called to see the {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{K-Hearts} flop and Foxen continued for 8,000. Chang called again and the {Q-Clubs} appeared on the turn.

Foxen fired a big barrel of 26,700 but Chang stuck around, calling. They saw the {6-Diamonds} complete the board and Foxen finally tapped. Chang checked back and Foxen announced ace-high, turning up what looked like {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Chang showed {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} and collected a huge pot just before the players headed out for a break.

Koon Takes it From Berkey

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Matt Berkey opened to 3,000 from early position. Jason Koon, on the cutoff, called, along with the small blind and the blind.

A flop of {8-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} was dealt and checked through to the {k-Clubs} turn and {10-Hearts} river. The blinds checked. Berkey bet 9,000. Koon called. The blinds folded. Berkey showed {5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Koon showed {k-Spades}{j-Spades} to win the pot.
