Howard Mash Leads Day 3 of Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship

Niveau 20 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Victor Ramdin

Day 2 of Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship has concluded with 252 players remaining in the running for the 2019 bracelet and $662,594 first prize. This is almost exactly the figure won by the 2018 Seniors champion Matthew Davis; the field this year totaled 5,916, two off last year’s number.

Leading the Day 3 combatants is Howard Mash, the only player to top 2,000,000 in chips. Close behind him lie Anthony Martin (1,759,000), WPT champion Victor Ramdin (1,688,000), Ron Fetsch and Thomas Loya (both with 1,493,000). John Esposito, Barry Greenstein and Layne Flack will also return to the felt, shorter-stacked but just as dangerous.

Eliminated in the money during Day 2 were start-of-day chip leaders Adilson Moraes and Albert Halfon, three-time bracelet winner Barbara Enright, 2012 champion Allyn Shulman, and Steve Albini. Joe Hachem also busted after the bubble burst; fellow Main Event champion Greg Raymer was out before payouts began at 888th place. For full details of prizes awarded thus far, please see the Payouts tab above.

Play resumes at 11:00 in the Amazon Room tomorrow as the battle for Sunday’s final table commences. Everyone returning is guaranteed at least $3,279 for making it this far, outlasting the majority of a field that rivaled those in the record-breaking Big 50. Pokernews will be standing by to track the action from the first card in the air.

Everybody Wants a Shot at Layne Flack

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Layne Flack
Layne Flack

Layne Flack's presence is providing for a lively table at Pavilion Black #185.

Lance Tahata tripled up in a three-way hand against Flack and one other opponent, reraising for the last of his 90,000 chips on a flop of {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and getting calls from both the hijack, and Flack on the cutoff.

The turn came the {a-Clubs}, and the hijack bet 100,000, which Flack called. The river came the {j-Hearts}, each player put another 100,000 in the side pot, and both turned over {a-}{j-} to chop up the side chips. Tahata got the best of it, however, turning over {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and getting just about the best possible result from his all-in move.

Elsewhere at the same table, Ernie Gormaz said he took 200,000 off of Flack in an earlier pot, with his {q-}{q-} taking down {k-}{k-} when a queen hit on the flop for a set. Gormaz noted that Flack played the hand well and lost the "bare minimum."

Greenstein Sticking Around

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Barry Greenstein
Barry Greenstein

It's been tough to catch Barry Greenstein in the act of playing a hand today, but he's booked a money finish in this event and currently sits with a 50-big-blind stack.

The legendary three-time bracelet winner did play a couple of consecutive small pots; the first saw Greenstein call a middle position open for 25,000 from the small blind, and check the {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop. The opponent checked back, and Greenstein checked again on the turn. This time the middle position player put in a bet and Greenstein wasted no time folding.

Greenstein was on the button in the next hand, making an attempt to steal the blinds when the action folded to him. His 18,000 bet was three-bet all-in by the small blind, however, and Greenstein once again instantly folded.

Donev and Hammersmith Feature on Entertaining Table 164

Niveau 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ivo Donev
Ivo Donev

This event has seen many chat adepts keep their whole tables involved in hands whether their own chips are at risk or not. There's barely an ipod to be seen and after eight hour-long levels some rivalries and friendships have spiced up the action on tables that have kept a steady line-up.

John Hammersmith open-jammed all in for 106,000. Action folded to Ivo Donev, who was tapping at his phone (he received a telling-off from the dealer and swerved a player's joking suggestion that his hand should be dead). Phone down, he thought for a while, then said, "Jesus. Jesus - it's the first time I make a good laydown. Nines."

No one else called Hammersmith and he said, "Pocket threes," throwing his cards towards the dealer. They hit a stack of chips, however, and flipped over as {a-}{j-} to much hilarity.

Kroon and Jennings Chat Through Small Pot

Niveau 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Mark Kroon
Mark Kroon

Mark Kroon's stack has risen consistently today, his current 750,000 or so representing more than triple the chips with which he began the day. He's keeping up a consistent flow of chat, especially when involved in a hand as he was heads up just now with Robert Jennings. Preflop he'd called a raise in the big blind, saying, "I'm going to play nice. I need a bad flop."

Flop: {5-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. "That's about as bad as it gets," continued Kroon, leading for 7,500, called by Jennings.

Turn: {6-Diamonds}: "Worst card in the deck," he said, checking. Jennings checked it back.

River: {5-Clubs}: "Sixteen-five," Kroon announced, throwing in a selection of chips, then doing it again with his left hand.

"I've got nine high," said Jennings, who was laughing while folding, shown a {10-Spades} in Kroon's hand.

Pham and Camejo Have History

Niveau 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
David Pham
David Pham

A pot grew heads up between David Pham and Rafael Camejo as Pham bet 4,000 when the {2-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop was checked to him. Camejo called, then checked again on the {7-Clubs} turn. Pham bet 6,500 and Camejo check-raised to 18,500, with 45,000 or so behind (Pham asked for a rough count). After a brief think, Pham said, "Okay," and folded, showing the {a-Clubs}.

"I got one of those," replied Camejo, flashing the {a-Hearts}.
"Seven," said Pham.
"I guess I don't need to show you that 'cause you already know."

"I like this guy," said Camejo, amongst other musings about the hand and his history playing against Pham and his unique style. Pots played in 2008 are still fresh, with a big one lost still clearly (if good-naturedly) rankling.
