Pretty Good Spot for Dempsey

Niveau 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

British bracelet holder and four-card poker aficionado James Dempsey has had a good start to his Day 2, eliminating Donna Cooper recently to boost his stack to 600,000.

On a flop of {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Dempsey, who'd raised preflop under the gun and found Cooper on the button as an opponent, had the "all in" lammer in front of him, but covered Cooper who made the call.

Dempsey: {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Cooper: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for the former but not the latter.

The turn and river ran out {2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. "I flopped the straight, and had top two. Pretty good spot," said Dempsey.

Lu Runs Into a Set of Aces to Be Eliminated

Niveau 22 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

In a three-way pot, on a flop of {a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and roughly 320,000 in the middle, Yang Lu moved all-in from the small blind for roughly 140,000. Ted Lawson quickly announced all-in as well and Dustin Goldklang got out of the way in a hurry.

Ted Lawson: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Yang Lu: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Yu didn't like seeing the set of aces from Lawson, but he still had a chance with a flush draw. The turn was the {5-Spades} and the river was the {9-Clubs}, giving Lu nines full of fives, but losing to Lawson's aces full of fives.

Close Count Busts Rogan

Pot-Limit Omaha

Two players nearly even in chips have amalgamated their stacks into that of Kyle Montgomery, who just took down a pot with {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{2-Hearts} on a board of {j-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}, eliminating Cody Rogan in the process.

"Gamble preflop, huh, sir?" asked Rogan.

"Trying to win," replied Montgomery, as the closeness of the stacks led Rogan to initiate a self-count.

"I'll count them. I want to make sure I'm out before I go out," he said, and the table were amenable. "Good luck, you guys," he said, when he was found to have slightly fewer chips.

Lamora's Run Continues

Pot-Limit Omaha

A shout of "Payout, Table 456 - Two!" rang out as Brandon Lamora scooped another big pot, eliminating both Diego Goncalves and Kartik Ved. The board was still up although the chips were already being stacked by Lamora: {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. From the post-hand dissection, it can be surmised that Lamora held some aces that held.

"How do aces hold? You, sir, are a mighty fine dealer," remarked Lamora.

"It's your big blind," he was answered, and at feigned reluctance to put it in, the dealer added, "I think you'll be OK."

The losing hands were {7-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} and {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

Israelashvili Gets a Double

No-Limit Hold'em

Roland Israelashvili had got all of his chips in the middle to be at risk for 172,000 against Christopher Astudillo.

Ronald Israelashvili: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Christopher Asudillo: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}

The dealer fanned a flop of {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, putting Israelashvili in the lead. The turn {6-Diamonds} and the river {9-Hearts} changed nothing and Israelashvili doubled up.

Tamasauskas Gets Eliminated

No-Limit Hold'em

Vincas Tamasauska moved all in from early position for 150,000, Robert Cowen called next to act and the rest of the table folded.

Vincas Tamasauska: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}
Robert Cowen: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

They were off to the races but the flop came {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}{10-Spades} and Tamasauska was going to need to catch a seven to stay alive. The turn {10-Diamonds} and the river {2-Diamonds} were no help and Tamasauskas was sent to the payout desk.

Double or Bust

No-Limit Hold'em

As is traditional on Day 2 of a pot limit/no limit event, shorter stacks are taking the plunge in droves, some regaining playable stacks, and some heading out to be paid. In the latter category are Benjamin Naylor and Nathan McLallin, the latter raising all in for an unfoldable-to amount after and utg+1 open from Brandon Lamora. Lamora's {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} hit to pair to more than hold against McLallin's {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, and the first table of the day has already broken.

Elsewhere, Dan Heimiller opened for 45,000 and it folded to late position Christopher Nall, who moved all in for 212,000. After a countdown and consideration period, Heimiller made the call with {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Nall's {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} hit on the flop of a {6-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts} board to scoop the pot and take a healthy bite out of Heimiller's stack, which had been over 530,000 at the start of the day.
