Following ten hours of play, only 14 of the initial 91 players have survived to Day 3 of World Series of Poker Event #74: $2,500 Big Bet Mix.

Russia's Denis Strebkov ended the day as the chip leader with 1,402,000 chips after making a late surge up the leaderboard after flopping a set of aces against Amnon Filipppi's set of kings in a hand of Pot-Limit Omaha.

Among the other contenders for the bracelet on Tuesday is the 2018 champion of this event, Scott Bohlman.

Bohlman was at or near the top of the leaderboard all day and solidified his standing by making quads on the last hand of the night to eliminate Eugene Roemischer in 15th place. He’ll enter the day third in chips with 827,000, just behind Shanmukha Meruga, who finished with 877,000.

Noah Boeken (455,000), Jon Turner (415,000), and Jerry Wong (355,000) are among the others who’ll return to the Amazon room at 2:00 pm local time to vie for the $117,898 top prize and the coveted WSOP gold bracelet.

Thirty-two players in all will visit the pay window from this event, with Jake Schwartz (31st - $4,097), Michael Binger (28th - $4,481), John Racener (24th - $5,121), and Ray Henson (18th - $6,153) among those earning a piece of the $471,700 prize pool.

Those not fortunate enough to make the money included bubble boy Ismael Bojang, who was eliminated in a hand of Pot-Limit Omaha by Bohlman, along with Eli Elezra, David Williams, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, and many more.

Wild Action, A Bit of Controversy, and an Unfortunate No-Show

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw was the game that saw a plethora of big pots and eliminations, including the elimination of Yuri Dzivielevski in 20th place at the hands of Anthony Ribeiro, who got his stack over a million at one point, but sunk back to 479,000 to finish the night.

That game is crazy enough as-is, but Ryan Laplante and Cody Wells were eliminated in an unfortunate quadruple-draw hand that wasn’t caught by anyone at the table.

The day also started with a bit of a down note as Dan Zack announced on Twitter that he was surrendering his stack because of Covid-19 symptoms. Zack later confirmed that he indeed had tested positive. Zack’s stack was put into play and blinded off as a result.

The remaining 14 players will return to the Amazon gold section Tuesday to play down to a winner and PokerNews will have all the wild big bet action for you from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Eugene Roemischer Eliminated in 15th Place ($6,153)

No-Limit Hold'em

On the final hand of the night, Scott Bohlman raised in late position to 25,000 and Eugene Roemischer moved all-in for 98,000.

Bohlman didn't love the idea of calling, but decided it was worth it and did so.

Eugene Roemischer: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Scott Bohlman: {9-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

Bohlman had been caught stealing, but his thievery was rewarded on the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop.

The {6-Spades} fell on the turn, and then for good measure, the {9-Diamonds} came on the river to give Bohlman quad nines and send Roemischer to the payout window to end the night.

Barrett was crushed by Ribeiro's flopped full house and couldn't improve with the turn {8-Hearts} or the river {6-Hearts}, eliminating him from the tournament, while Ribeiro soars over a million chips.

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

With a huge pot already built by the second draw, Yuri Dzivielevski patted and Anthony Riberio drew one.

Dzivielevski checked, and Ribeiro bet 90,000. Dzivielevski check-raised all-in for 300,000 more. After a few minutes of thought, Ribeiro called, and an almost 900,000 chip pot was about to be decided.

Both players stood pat, and Dzivielevski showed {8-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}, which was pipped by Ribeiro's {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} to win the massive pot and take the chip lead into the break.

Big O

Pearce Arnold raised to 20,000 in late position and got called in the big blind by Johannes Becker from a short stack.

On the {3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop, Becker bet the size of the pot, almost all-in. Arnold raised enough to put the rest in and Becker called.

Johannes Becker: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Pearce Arnold: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}

Arnold had Becker virtually dead to running sixes or a low, with neither coming with the {4-Diamonds} turn and the {k-Diamonds} river to send Becker to the rail in 22nd place.

Filippi's Wheel Eliminates Racener

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Richard Bai opened the action with a raise to 15,000 from the button, which was met with a call by Amnon Filippi in the small blind, then a raise to 60,000 from John Racener in the big blind. Bai folded and Fiippi called.

On the first draw, Filippi took two cards, while Racener took one. Filippi then called a 140,000 chip bet from Racener, and they each drew one.

Following that draw, Filippi shoved all-in for Racener's final 97,000 chips, and Racener called.

Both players drew one and got the card they were looking for as each drew a {3-}.

The problem for Racener was that Filippi's {3-} slid into {7-}{5-}{4-}{2-}, giving him a wheel, while Racener could only make {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{2-} to eliminate him from the tournament.

Meanwhile, at other tables, Stuart Rutter and Dominik Baud were also eliminated, dropping the field to 22 players.

On a turn board of {2-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, Jose Paz-Gutierrez checked in early position to Scott Bohlman who bet 100,000. Paz-Gutierrez then check-jammed 240,000 and Bohlman called.

Jose Paz-Gutierrez: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Scott Bohlman: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}

Bohlman's two pair led, then held when the {a-Spades} fell on the river, giving him another huge pot and the chip lead in the tournament.

Strebkov Eliminates Two In Crazy Triple Draw Hand

Niveau 16
Denis Strebkov
Denis Strebkov

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Before the draws, Ryan Laplante and Cody Wells were all-in for approximately 100,000 each versus Denis Strebkov who had both players covered.

On the first and second draws, each player took one card.

On the third draw, Strebkov was first to act and patted his hand, Wells then took some time with his decision and chose to pat. Laplante patted behind as well.

Here's where things got interesting.

No one immediately tabled their hand, and in the time it took while Wells was making his decision, it seemed as though everyone lost track of the draws.

Strebkov made a 'stand pat' motion, and then Wells pulled a card out of his hand and put it on the table. Laplante patted again, the dealer slid Wells a new card, and somehow a fourth draw took place!

At this point, the hands were tabled and fortunately, the outcome of the hand wasn't impacted as Strebkov showed {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, Laplante showed {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}, and after sweating that potentially controversial fourth draw, Wells drew a {k-} to go with his {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}.

Disaster was averted and Strebkov won a huge pot, eliminating Wells and Laplante.
