Day 1 of Event #2 $100,000 High Roller Bounty at The 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas came to a close after 12 levels of play. As expected, the event drew some of poker’s biggest names with a total of 45 entries, which was whittled down to 15 by the day’s close.

Justin Young had a good stretch of play during the middle of the day, winning two key flips against Chris Hunichen and Laszlo Bujitas. He then enjoyed a late surge and will enter tomorrow as the chipleader with 3,500,000, thanks in large part to winning a huge pot against Alex Foxen during the last level of the night with his set of kings besting Foxen’s set of jacks.

Phil Ivey made a return to the WSOP after missing last year's edition and had a successful day, bagging 1,975,000. A good portion of that came from a hand against Sergi Reixach in which Reixach's two pair fell to Ivey's flush.

Other notables who bagged and tagged include Daniel Negreanu (1,235,000), David Peters (3,085,000) and the 2021 WSOP Main Event Champion Koray Aldemir (2,930,000).

Play will continue on Wednesday at 12 p.m. with the remaining 15 players returning in Level 13 with blinds at 15,000/30,000 with a 30,000 ante. The field is expected to grow before cards go in the air with late registration open until the start of play. The plan is to play down to the final five players and return for the Day 3 finale on Thursday.

Katz Knocks Out Schindler

Niveau 12 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

With almost 180,000 in the middle on a board of {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts}, Jake Schindler raised to 135,000 on the button and Cary Katz called from the big blind to see a river card.

When the {4-Spades} fell, Katz bet enough to put Schindler all in. Schindler called with {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for top pair, but Katz had been on a diamond draw with {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and although he missed his flush, two pair was enough to eliminate Schindler and claim the $25,000 bounty.

Foxen Eliminated by Young in Huge Preflop Confrontation

Niveau 12 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Alex Foxen
Alex Foxen

Justin Young in early position and Alex Foxen on the button went back and forth with raises preflop until all of Foxen's 1,400,000 chips were in the middle and at risk.

Alex Foxen: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Justin Young: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop brought Foxen life giving him a set of jacks. The {10-Spades} on the turn was safe, but the {k-Diamonds} on the river gave Young the end of night chip lead and eliminated Foxen just before the end of the day.

After Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger moved all in from the button for 570,000, Daniel Negreanu moved in over the top for about 100,000 more. Jake Schindler folded his big blind and Negreanu was in line for a bounty.

Andrew Lichtenberger: {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Daniel Negreanu: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The dealer spread a board of {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}, finishing off Lichtenberger's second and final entry of the day.

Dan Shak moved all in from under the gun and was put at risk by David Peters in the big blind.

Dan Shak: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
David Peters: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Shak was going to need a significant amount of help to survive but could not find any on the {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} board to end his day. Peters, meanwhile, moved past the 3,000,000 mark.
