Event #23: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold'em Kicks off Today

The 53rd annual World Series of Poker at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas continues today with Event #23: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold’em. Cards will be in the air at 3:00 p.m. PT today as this event kicks off.

Ryan Hansen is the current defending champion, having won $109,692 in last year's event as well as his first WSOP bracelet. Hansen bested a field of 162 entries that ended in an intense heads-up battle with Kosei Ichinose en route to victory.

Players will start the day with a stack of 40,000 chips and blinds will be 200/300 during Level 1. The levels will be 60-minutes, with a 15-min break after every two levels. Day 1 is set to play a total of ten levels before bagging up for the night and the late registration period will be open until the end of Level 8 (approximately 12:00 a.m.)

The cutoff opened action with a bet to 600. Mark Bassaly made the call from the big blind, giving heads-up action to the flop.

On the {2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop, the cutoff continued for 300. Bassaly raised to 600, getting a call from his opponent.

Bassaly led out on the {j-Spades} turn for 600, again getting a call.

The {6-Diamonds} river resulted in the same bet from Bassaly and yet another call.

"Two pair!" Bassaly announced, as he turned over {k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, after which his opponent mucked his hand, giving Bassaly the pot.

On the {7-Spades} river it was Amarapu who fired the big bet, and the big blind made the call. Amarapu turned over {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, good for two pair, and the pot.

On the very next hand, Amarapu, now on the button, opened preflop action with a big bet. The small blind raised to 1,500, which Amarapu called.

The small blind led for a small bet on the {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop. Amarapu raised to 1,000. The small blind called.

The small blind fired again on the {k-Spades} turn, this time for 1,000. Amarapu called.

On the {10-Hearts} river, the small blind again fired for 1,000. Amarapu raised to 2,000 before his opponent made the quick call. Amarapu turned over {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, giving him a full house and the pot.

On the river was a {9-Diamonds} which Baker bet and the cutoff folded. Baker flipped his cards as he stacked the pot to show that his {q-Hearts}{9-Spades} caught him a pair on the river.

Battle of the Blinds Between Rocco and Smith

The {k-Spades} completed the board on the river and Smith sent a last bet in the middle. Rocco quickly raised it and Smith didn't take long to make the fold.
