Justin Pechie
Justin Pechie

When talking to PokerNews about how his win felt, Pechie said, “I haven’t really processed it. I never really looked at the amounts or payouts; I just came in and played how I felt I should play, and now it’s kind of sinking in.”

Pechie started the third day in chips but steadily climbed to the top. He was hovering around second in chips for most of the day before taking the lead shortly after Level 34 with five players remaining. He was then back and forth with France’s Maxime Parys throughout the next two levels before he caught a double up off Parys and had nearly three-quarters of the chips in play for a dominating lead that carried him to victory.

Final Day Recap

Ten players started the final day with Orson Young getting eliminated shortly after play began in Level 28, but there was not another one until two hours later when a double elimination occurred, and Pechie took out Dwayne Sullivan and former bracelet winner, Jeremy Wien.

The next elimination was France’s Michel Leibgorin who was taken out by David Dibernardi. The French brigade was out in full force at the rail, cheering on the three players from France who were sitting at the final table and with one down, they only had two left.

Steve Zolotow
Steve Zolotow

Dibernardi chipped up from taking out Leibgorin was it was short lived and he was the next one out. Soon after, fan favourite and poker legend Steve Zolotow fell victim to Pechie and received applause as he left the table.

Kenny Robbins was the next to go, and then there were three. Pechie versus the two Frenchman, and he did not back down, getting a huge dent out of the stack of Maxime Parys and acquiring 70% of the chips in play.

Parys was knocked out by fellow Frenchman, Samuel Bifarella, which took it down to the final two.

Pechie and Bifarella then battled back and forth, with Pechie never really relinquishing his enormous chip lead. It all ended when Bifarella, with king-deuce, was all in on the flop and Pechie snap-called with five-six for two pair. Bifarella had 19 outs to hit on the river but missed them all, ending the long 3-day battle to be crowned champion.

This concludes PokerNews' coverage of the event, but there is still plenty more to come from the 2022 WSOP, so be sure to keep it locked in.

Justin Pechie called from the small blind and Maxime Parys checked.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Pechie bet 650,000. Parys raised to 2,000,000 and Pechie called.

With 5,500,000 in the middle, the turn came the {5-Diamonds} and Pechie checked it over to Parys after about 30 seconds. Parys bet 3,000,000 and Pechie shoved for his remaining 12,400,000. Parys puffed out his cheeks upon the all-in and eventually called, leaving just 1,625,000 behind.

Justin Pechie: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Maxime Parys: {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Pechie had the nut straight against Parys' flopped two pair.

With 30,300,000 in the pot and Parys drawing to just four outs, the all-important river came the {k-Diamonds} to give Pechie a massive chip lead.

Parys, meanwhile, was left with just a little over three blinds.

Kenny Robbins: {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Maxime Parys: {a-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Robbins flopped a gutshot straight draw with the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades} flop. The {3-Hearts} turn was not the card he was hoping for and neither was the {a-Diamonds} that came on the river, which gave Parys top pair and the win and sent him out of the tournament in fourth place.

Justin Pechie
Justin Pechie

Justin Pechie moved all in on the button for 7,350,000 and Maxime Parys in the big blind went into the tank before grabbing some chips and putting them out there for a call.

Justin Pechie: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Maxime Parys: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

With a 15,300,000 in the pot the flop came down {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and the ace in the window gave Pechie top pair, dominating Parys' pocket nines. The turn was a {10-Hearts} and a with a {k-Spades} on the river not helping either player.

Pechie was saved and became the new chip leader in the process, putting a dent into Parys' chipstack who has been miles ahead of everyone else throughout the day.

Pechie Makes Correct Laydown on Dicey River

Niveau 33 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
Justin Pechie
Justin Pechie

Justin Pechie opened to 650,000 with {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} from the hijack and Maxime Parys flatted {10-Spades}{9-Spades} from the button. Steve Zolotow also defended the button with {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{j-Spades} and Pechie was still in front despite Parys flopping a pair of tens, a straight draw, and a backdoor flush draw.

Pechie continued for 900,000 and Parys called. Zolotow got out of the way.

The {3-Diamonds} rolled off on the turn, which would have given Zolotow a set. Pechie tapped the table over to Parys who also checked.

The {9-Clubs} hit the river, giving Parys two pair and the best hand. Parys bet 1,000,000 on the river into a 4,200,000-chip pot.

Pechie went deep into the tank for nearly five minutes before he ended up making the correct fold.

David Dibernardi Eliminated in 6th Place ($68,002)

Niveau 33 : 150,000/300,000, 300,000 ante
David Dibernardi
David Dibernardi

David Dibernardi raised to 600,000 with {a-Clubs}{9-Spades} from the hijack and action came around to Samuel Bifarella in the big blind who called with {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The flop came down {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Bifarella checked to Dibernardi who bet 400,000 on his ace-high and Bifarella contemplated for a few moments before calling with his pair of kings.

The turn was an {8-Clubs} and Bifarella checked again to Dibernardi who threw out a monster bet of $950,000 which Bifarella called right away.

A {5-Clubs} on the river had Bifarella checking to Dibernardi, who thought about it for a moment before moving all in for 3,000,000. This move sent Bifarella deep in to the tank; and after a few minutes he made the call, catching Dibernardi in a bluff and sending him out of the tournament.
