Buckle Up for Day 2 of Event #7 $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo or Better

Yehuda Buchalter
Yehuda Buchalter

More action from the 2022 WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas is set to begin shortly with Day 2 of Event #7: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better.

After playing 15 levels of play on yesterday's Day 1, 413 players will be returning for Day 2 which kicks off this afternoon at 2 p.m. local time. This event attracted a record-breaking 1,086 entries, surpassing the previous record of 1,036 from 2014.

Yehuda Buchalter was the chip leader at the end of Day 1 with a stack of 261,500. Buchalter already has previous cashes under his belt, but he will be looking to add a first-place finish and a WSOP bracelet to his poker resume.

Competition is steep though and with a prize pool of $1,451,154 and a lot of big names and bracelet winners not far behind that could change at any time once play resumes.

Not too far behind Buchalter are Amnon Filippi (205,000), Robert Tanita (187,500), David Flores (182,000) and Van Law (180,500). Other notables still in the running are Carol Fuchs (166,500), Phil Hellmuth (100,500), Shaun Deeb (73,000) and Benny Glaser (158,000).

Just 164 players will make the money, with the min-cash being $2,400 but of course all eyes will be on the $252,718 first-place prize. Day 2 will come to close after 11 levels of play or when five players remain, whichever comes first.

Unexpected Chop for Martini; Who Then Loses Some

Niveau 16 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante
Julien Martini
Julien Martini

Three ways to the {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{a-Hearts} turn, Julien Martini was already all-in with Wayne Diep and Jeffrey Vaughn each investing one bet. Diep also bet the {j-Hearts} river and Vaughn called.

Martini tabled the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and was ready to leave but won half the pot for the high hand. Diep's {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} and Vaughn's {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} only chopped the low.

One hand later, Martini raised and bet the {k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop before checking the {7-Hearts} turn. Martini bet the {8-Clubs} river and Tyler Phillips sighed, then said "I should raise but just gonna call", as he was afraid of a superior low. Martini rolled over the {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} but Phillips won the entire pot with the {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a flush and nut low.

More for Esposito Without Showdown

Ruiko Mamiya defended her big blind against John Esposito and check-called a bet on the {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Both checked the {7-Spades} on the turn and Mamiya also checked the {k-Spades} on the river. Esposito bet and that ended the hand right there, as Mamiya sent her cards into the muck.

With a stack of nearly three times the average, Esposito is among the biggest stacks in the room.

Glaser Eliminated by Epstein

Niveau 19 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Benny Glaser

Scott Epstein defended the big blind and then raised the {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop against Benny Glaser, who had opened from early position. Glaser called and had just a few chips behind, which he then committed on the {5-Diamonds} turn when Epstein bet.

Benny Glaser: {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Scott Epstein: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

Glaser's inferior flush was drawing dead already and that made the {2-Diamonds} river a formality as the Brit exited only a few spots away from the money bubble.

Filippi Leads the Way; Shack-Harris Bows Out

Niveau 20 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Brandon Shack-Harris
Brandon Shack-Harris

In a hand that took place right before the break, Brandon Shack-Harris was spotted on his way to the rail. Down to the last 6,000 chips and forced all-in from the big blind, he was up against the Casey Schams in the small blind.

The cards of Shack-Harris were already mucked as Schams had an unbeatable hand. On a board of {j-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Hearts} of Schams had rivered a straight flush. Despite picking up the pot, Schams is one of the shortest stacks in the room while his table neighbour Amnon Filippi is the current chip leader.

Epstein's Runner-Runner Knocks Out Ramos

A short-stacked Gabriel Ramos was all-in with the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and he was up against the {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} of Scott Epstein.

The {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop seemingly locked up the double for Ramos but the {q-Spades} turn and {k-Spades} river gave Epstein broadway.

"We already talked about it, that was an ugly run-out," Andrew Brown in the one seat mentioned while Ramos collected his belongings including his Shiba Inu dog on the rail before heading to the payout desk.

Hellmuth Misses River and Exits

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

PokerNews missed the action, but was given a record of what happened when poker star Phil Hellmuth was put all in on the turn by chip leader Christopher Carney on a board of {4-}{j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{k-}

"I've got too much committed," Hellmuth admitted as he put the last of his chips in the pot.

On the {8-Spades} river, Carney tabled his {a-}{k-}{j-}{2-} for trip kings causing Hellmuth to flash {2-Clubs}{4-Clubs} before sending it into the muck.

Hellmuth then made a quick exit after cashing in 136th place for $2400.

Three Quarters for Fuchs

Carol Fuchs called a raise on the {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop before checking down the {6-Diamonds} turn and {k-Spades} river. Her {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for eights and fours with a live eight was good enough for three quarters, as Eddie Blumenthal tabled the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for inferior two pair and the same low.

Three Quarters With Mighty Deuces for Glantz

Matt Glantz

In one of the first hands coming back from the break, John Cernuto was knocked out by Joey Couden. One hand later, Matt Glantz raised and then called a three-bet by Logan Hatch. The {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades} flop was checked by Glantz, who then called a continuation bet. Both checked the {7-Clubs} turn which Glantz took as a good sign according to the table chat.

When the {6-Clubs} fell on the river, Glantz joked "I might have a straight flush" right before he bet. Hatch called with the {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for the nut low and won just a quarter, as Glantz won most of the pot with {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades} and a "deuces for the gin".
