Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.

In the seventh episode, Connor speaks with World Series of Poker (WSOP) commentator Norman Chad, one of the most recognizable voices in poker who has provided color commentary on poker's biggest stage for over 20 years.

Chad talks about getting his start as a sports writer in college, his decades-long syndicated sports humor column for the Washington Post and being asked to commentate on the 2003 WSOP Main Event that sparked the Poker Boom.

Chad also discusses the state of poker broadcasting today, the need for more color commentary in the booth, and the need for more interesting characters on the felt.

Patrik Jaros got the last of his chip in on a flop that read 8♠7♣2♠ and quickly lamented that he was drawing near dead when cards were on their backs.

Joseph Dulaney: A♠7♥7♠4♥

The turn left Jaros drawing to a jack only when it peeled the 8♦ but the 7♦ only added insult to injury as Dulaney clapped his hands as he made quads on the river.

Jaros was good natured from start to finish and was thrilled to be in contention to the end.

To start the hand, Dong Chen only had 200,000 chips or five big blinds. He raised from the cutoff, and Peter Nghia Le re-raised from the button. When action came back to Chen, he put the rest of his chips in.

Chen was in bad shape, the flop of 4♠5♠9♣ gave him a pair and, with that, a draw to a few two-pair outs. However, the Q♦ and Q♠ on the turn and river meant the end of his tournament.

Arkadiy Tsinis was on the short stack after the table redraw and raised to 300,000 from the hijack, leaving himself just a few chips behind. Next to act was Robert Cote, who re-raised all in for his stack of 460,000.

Play folded back to Tsinis, who looked around for possible bustouts at other tables and then put his last chips in.

The flop came K♣J♣2♥. Tsinis picked up a gutshot, but Cote had two of the queens that would complete one. The turn and river were K♦ and 3♦ respectively, and Tsinis was eliminated.

Marcos Exterkotter opened to 50,000 from the button and Boshuang Gao raised to all but 40,000. When action was back on Exterkotter he four-bet all-in.

Gao stated he was going to take a minute before making the call. Gao remarked, "When you raised I thought you were strong." The other players at the table joked and acknowledged that he would want some time to potentially ladder up.

Finally Gao decided to put the remaining 40,000 in. When both players turned their hands over Gao joked that he was ahead.

Marcos Exterkotter: A♦K♥

The flop immediately paired Exterkotter's ace and the remainder of the board was no help.
