Dehkhargani Leads, Glantz Overcomes Controversial Hand on Day 1

It looked like it would be a slow day and a weak turnout in Event #17: $10,000 Dealers Choice 6-Handed Championship, but by day's end, a solid 102 players had been seated in the event.

Just 37 of those made it on to Day 2, and leading the way will be Ray Dehkharghani, a noted mixed game player who won last year's $10,000 Razz Championship. Dehkharghani turned his 50,000 starting stack into 265,000 to bag a narrow lead over Viacheslav Zhukov (258,000) and Zachary Freeman (257,200).

However, while there was plenty of laughter at a bunch of the tables as regulars battled in 20-odd different games, Day 1 was marred by controversy in a pot contested between Matt Glantz and Samuel Touil.

It happened during no-limit hold'em, when Touil came in for a raise and saw Glantz three-bet. Touil made a forward motion with his chips but didn't set them onto the felt, and Glantz piled in his remaining stack and turned over his ace-king. Touil argued he hadn't completed his motion, and supervisors agreed that he still had action.

Glantz was adamant that Touil had angled him, but in the end, his vehement argument went unheeded and Touil was allowed to just call. Touil stuck the rest in after flopping a straight draw with ace-jack, Glantz called, and Touil got there.

Glantz was left with just 33,000 with limits at 3,000/6,000 but got the last laugh as he managed to recover and bag 84,700, while Touil fell in a later pot.

Other notables bagging above-average stacks included Jon Turner, James Obst, Mike Matusow, Todd Brunson and Daniel Negreanu. Players going bust included Phil Hellmuth, Jason Mercier, Brian Rast, Dzmitry Urbanovich, and Stephen Chidwick.

Play resumes Friday at 2 p.m. with another 10-level day on the docket, so come back to PokerNews to see which players will be contesting the final stages of the Dealer's Choice Championship.

Glantz Makes Correct River Fold

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Stud Hi-Lo Regular

Matt Glantz completed and Schuyler Thornton raised. Glantz called and led out on fourth street with Thornton calling.

On fifth street, Glantz bet and Thornton raised. Glantz called, and then called on sixth once Thornton took the betting lead as each player's boards read as follows heading into seventh street.

Glantz: {X-}{X-} / {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} / {X-}
Thornton: {X-}{X-} / {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} / {X-}

Once Thornton bet the river, Glantz deliberated for roughly 30 seconds before folding.

"I binked the river" announced Thornton as he tabled his {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a six-straight for the high and a wheel for the low.

Hughes Scooped by Racener

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

John Racener and Ryan Hughes were playing a decent-sized pot when we showed up to their table on sixth street.

Racener: {x-}{x-}/{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Hughes: {x-}{x-}/{4-Clubs}{k-Spades}{2-Spades}{j-Spades}

Racener check-called a bet and they took seventh street. Racener checked and Hughes bet. Racener popped in a raise that Hughes called.

"Queens full," Racener said, tabling {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}.

Hughes mucked. Despite the loss, he's run up his starting stack considerably after running deep in the Heads-Up Championship and registering near the buzzer.

Touil Toppled by Thornton

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

Following the controversial hand that happened roughly one hour ago, Samuel Touil is now no longer in the Dealers Choice Championship.

Speaking to Felipe Ramos, Touil check-raised all in on a {A-}{A-}{10-} flop holding {K-}{Q-}{J-}{X-} and Thornton made the call with {A-}{10-}{X-}{X-} to have him drawing dead.

Following Touil's elimination, Thornton moved up to 175,000 in chips as Glantz jokingly stated, "There goes my chips!"

Turner Won't Fold "Biggest Hand"

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

No-Limit Five-Card Draw

Jon Turner had 9,000 in front of him on the button after the draw, and Bryce Yockey made it a check-raise to 30,000.

"This is the biggest hand in no-limit five-card draw I've ever been dealt in my life," Turner declared. Eventually, he called.

"Kings up," Yockey said.

Turner immediately tabled {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades} for aces up.

"Pretty hard for you to have that hand," Yockey said with a sigh as he showed {k-}{k-}{3-}{3-}{a-}.

Martin Still Hanging Around After Another Chop

Niveau 10 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

Jesse Martin just chopped another three-way pot to survive.

This time, he, Daniel Zack and Chris Klodnicki built a pot of about 50,000 before the first draw. Zack took two, Klodnicki one and Martin tanked a couple of minutes before patting. They got a bet in which put Martin all in after the draw. Draws went one, one, pat, and Zack checked. Klodnicki bet and Zack raised. Klodnicki called. Draws were one, one, pat again. Zack bet and Klodnicki called.

Zack showed {5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for nut badugi but his last pull had been a useless {a-Spades}. Martin held {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for an eight-low. Klodnicki had a {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a seven-badugi but his last card was a {k-Hearts}, leaving him getting zero.
