Greenberg Builds Stack

Niveau 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Joining the action on the three-way turn of {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board, David Greenberg in the big blind bet 1,150 and Andy Park called from early position, while Alan Smurfit folded on the button. The {3-Hearts} appeared on the river and Greenberg checked, Park bet 2,500, and Greenberg quickly called.

Park showed {A-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Greenberg had the better kicker in {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} to scoop the pot. Smurfit, who won a WSOP bracelet in a $ 1,500 pot-limit Omaha event in 2007, is joined by Patrick Leonard in the one seat.

Pratyush Buddiga Loses Some

Pratyush Buddiga
Pratyush Buddiga

The player in the hijack opened to 400, the cutoff and button both called, and Pratyush Buddiga called from the big blind.

The four players saw a flop of {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} and action checked around to the button who bet 1,100. Buddiga called and the preflop raiser and the cutoff both folded.

The turn brought the {Q-Hearts} and both players checked.

The {4-Spades} fell on the river and Buddiga checked. After a few moments, his opponent checked behind and flipped over {J-Spades}{9-Spades} for the turned queen-high straight, which was best as Buddiga held {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs} for a pair of queens.

Niveau 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Sergi Reixach was in the big blind on a board of {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. He checked and an opponent in middle position bet 1,400 into the pot of 2,300. Reixach called, and the river brought a {q-Diamonds}. Reixach checked and his opponent quickly checked back. The Spaniard showed {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and his opponent confidently turned over {j-}{10-} for two pair, not realizing Reixach had hit a straight. Upon seeing the straight, the other player reached out and quickly turned his cards over.

Grimes Takes from Yang

Niveau 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

2007 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Jerry Yang tangled in a pot with Chadwick Grimes and the action was picked up on the {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} turn. Grimes checked out of the big blind and Yang bet 750 from the button. Grimes called. The {K-Clubs} on the river completed the board and Grimes checked again.

Yang bet 2,250 and Grimes carefully checked his stack before tossing the chips for a call. Yang nodded and tapped the table, which prompted Grimes to table his {A-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a pair of aces. Yang mucked and dropped just below starting stack.

A Few Hands With Sam Chartier

Niveau 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Canadian Sam Chartier, who has more than $2.8 million in cashes and a collection of big scores from across the globe, is seated at Table 111 and appears to be off to a fantastic start. He's already turned his starting stack of 50,000 into more than 70,000, and we kept an eye on him for a bit to see how he was going about his business.

In the first hand we saw, Chartier was part of a three-way checkdown on a board of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Someone showed {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}, prompting Chartier to muck, but another player won with {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.

A few hands later, Chartier opened for a raise to 400 in middle position and everyone folded, with the big blind showing {3-}{2-}. Chartier showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

A bit after that, a player opened to 300 in early position and Chartier made it 1,000 to go. His opponent flashed a card we didn't see and folded.

When Chartier was back in middle position, he raised to 400 again and saw his opponent on the immediate left three-bet to 2,000. Chartier called. He check-called 1,000 on the {9-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop, and the turn was a {9-Clubs}. Chartier checked again, this time folding to a bet of 5,000. His opponent showed {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

"Why do you always have to mess with me?" Chartier's neighbor asked with a laugh. "Good thing I had the king."
