Cannuli Puts the Pressure on

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Tom Cannuli bet 9,200 from middle position on a board of {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{a-Spades}, and an opponent in the cutoff called. On the {q-Diamonds} river, Cannuli asked to see his opponent's stack, which looked to be a bit over 31,000. Cannuli announced he was all in, and his opponent quickly folded.

Cannuli knows full well what it takes to go deep in this event. In 2015, he finished sixth in the Main Event for about $1.4 million. He has had a strong summer with a win in the $3,333 online event here at the 2017 WSOP, and he's building a nice stack for another run in the Main.

Max Steinberg Eliminated After a Series of Unfortunate Events

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Max Steinberg earlier this summer
Max Steinberg earlier this summer

We headed to Max Steinberg's former table to find out what happened to the November Niner, after previously having seen him with a healthy chipstack.

Jarod Einsohn told us that seven players saw a flop of {10-}{9-}{8-}. It checked to Steinberg who bet 10,000 and Einsohn was the only caller. The pair checked the {6-} on the turn and on the river, which was a {9-}, Steinberg moved all in, putting Einsohn's stack of around 55,000 to the test.

Unfortunately for Steinberg, Einsohn turned over {8-}{9-} for a rivered full house, beating the {q-}{5-} of Steinberg.

Then, a little while later, a player in early position raised and Justin Gwinn called in middle position. Steinberg called on the button and the flop came {9-}{8-}{6-} with two clubs. It checked to Gwinn who bet 4,000. Steinberg moved all in for 28,000. The initial raiser folded and Gwinn called.

Gwinn showed {7-}{7-} and Steinberg {6-}{6-}. The turn was a {k-} but the {10-} river gave Gwinn a straight and eliminated Steinberg.

Bertrand Grospellier Busts

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Bertrand ElkY Grospellier
Bertrand ElkY Grospellier

It was a valiant effort from Bertrand Grospellier who started the day with just 5,300 chip, gave them a good spin-up, but has just recently busted as recounted by his neighbor at the table.

There was an open from mid-position and Grospellier shoved his last 8,000 in from late position holding {a-}{q-}. The original raiser called with the dominating {a-}{k-}.

The flop was a promising {q-}{j-}{x-} for Grospellier, but the {10-} on the turn gave his opponent Broadway, the chips, and a bleached blond ElkY scalp.

The Banana Was Bluffing

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

If there was one man that is easy to spot in today's Main Event field, it is Yehuda Cohen, a.k.a. "chiKKita banAAna", with a bright yellow hoodie. He stormed up the rankings early on but has since cooled down despite very active table talk.

In a recent hand, he bet the {J-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Spades} turn for 6,000 and the player on the button called. The {5-Diamonds} fell on the river and Cohen made it 15,500 to go. The button called and Cohen said, "You are good, I have nothing," while the button turned over {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Sofia Lovgren had to forfeit her big blind in that hand and remains among the short stacks.

Chan Folds to Shove

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On the three-way flop of {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, Gail Getzwiller bet 5,500 from the button and picked up calls by Aalok Arora and Johnny Chan. The {A-Hearts} fell on the turn and the action chercked to Getzwiller, who moved all in. Arora asked for a count and folded when it was deemed to be for 31,500.

Chan also folded, flashing a king, and Arora replied, "I had a king as well," while Getzwiller showed {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for two pair. The table broke right after, and all were moved to the Amazon room.

Negreanu Loses a Big One

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

After a check from Negreanu, a bet from his opponent, and a call on a flop of {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades}, both players headed to the {4-Clubs} on the turn with a pot of about 20,000 in the middle. The action slowed down and both players checked to see the {8-Clubs} on the river.

Negreanu checked again on the river and his opponent bet 11,3000.

"Maybe we have the same hand," Negreanu said. "Feels like we have the same hand or you have ace-king."

Eventually Negreanu put in the chips to call. His opponent did, in fact, show {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. Negreanu flashed {A-}{Q-} and the pot pushed him under starting stack.

Scotty Nguyen Winning and Showing

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen

Scotty Nguyen opened the action for 3,000 and got a caller an from early-position the player in the small blind and Sy Pham who called blind from the big blind,

The flop was {2-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Pham led out for 7,000. Nguyen raised it up to 20,000 and the other players folded, leaving Pham with a dilemma. The TV cameras crowded round while Pham pondered.

“Whatever you have in your hand is no good,” Nguyen told him.

Pham eventually laid it down and Nguyen twirled his {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} round for the table and cameras to see.

A Few More Chip Counts From The Brasilia Room

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

"Thank You, Universe"

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

"Yes! Yes! Thank you, universe!"

Those were the shouts we heard coming from Table 701, so we checked things out over there. The board had come {5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. Nika Futterman was all in on the button with {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} and had gotten lucky with runner two pair against {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} held by the big blind.

From the chatter at the table, we learned that the hand got all in on the turn with Futterman holding top pair. The accomplished voice actress was given new life and about 25,000 in chips with the river queen and seems positively thrilled about the development.

Robert Mizrachi Takes It on the Flop

Niveau 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

After a raise from late position and a three-bet, Robert Mizrachi called 5,100 from the small blind. The original raiser called the three-bet as well.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Mizrachi checked. The original raiser bet and the three-bettor folded. He seemed pained by the lay-down.

Mizrachi raised to 19,500 and took down the pot when his opponent said he folded king-queen.
