Final Break of the Night

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A total of four levels have been completed so far today, with just one more two-hour level remaining. First, the players can enjoy a 20-minute break.

During the last level, Ryan Hughes extended his lead, chipping up to 585,000.

Unfortunately, the level also saw the departures of Phil Hellmuth, Galen Hall, Xuan Liu, Eric Baldwin, Griffin Benger, and Antonio Esfandiari.

Daniel Negreanu is in the danger zone, and the cameras are circling, waiting for a big double-up or the alternative outcome.

Mustapha Kanit Has A Late Breakfast

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

Mustapha Kanit lost a hand and the player who took it from him declared there was a new bully in town.

“I am not a bully,” Kanit protested, “but I like to bully bullies and I eat donkeys for breakfast”

This prompted a quick chorus of “Wolly bully,” before Kanit declared he was raising the next pot on the new bullies big blind and he got his man to call.

The flop was {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and both players checked. The turn was the {a-Spades} and the big blind bet 3,400. Kanit called and the river was the {k-Diamonds}. The big blind upped the bet to 7,000.

“Are you some kind of genius?” Kanit wanted to know, “Or maybe a donkey? Somewhere in-between perhaps.”

Kanit called and his opponent tabled {q-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Kanit had the winner with {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Roller Coaster for Kamel

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On his old table, Tamer Kamel tried a move with {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and turned top pair before an ace struck on the river. Kamel moved all in and his opponent called with pocket aces for top set. After being moved to a new table, the Brit turned a seven-high straight with pocket sixes and his valuebet on the river was paid to see Kamel recover chips.

Below are further assorted chip counts from the tan and orange section of the Amazon room.

Affleck Gets Four-Bet

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

From the hijack seat, a player opened to 2,500. Matt Affleck was in the next seat over, and he re-raised to 8,000. Action folded back around to the hijack player, who re-raised again, making it 22,500 to play. Affleck thought for about 30 seconds, then released his hand.

"Why did you three-bet?" Kitty Kuo, who was on the button that hand, asked Affleck.

"He can't hear you," the hijack player said. Affleck was wearing headphones and couldn't hear the question.

"I was going to three-bet you," Kuo told the hijack player. "And I call your four-bet, then suck out on you."

"That's because you know me," the hijack said.

Either way, the player took down the pot without much hassle while Affleck fell under 100,000 chips.

Daniel Negreanu Pays $5 to See He Folded the Best Hand

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

"That was worth the five bucks," Daniel Negreanu said after paying five dollars to see Bob Slezak's hand.

Slezak bet 8,000 on the river into a pot of about 22,000, and Negreanu only had 14,000 left. The board read {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, and Negreanu went through Slezak's possible holdings.

"Let's go through what you might have," Negreanu held out his fingers and began ticking them off almost as if playing "This Little Piggy."

"You don't have that one, or that one. I can't beat this one," Negreanu said, shaking his finger with his opposite hand.

Negreanu folded.

"Five bucks and I'll show you," said Bob Slezak.

"Five bucks? Okay."

Negreanu tossed Slezak a $10 bill, and Slezak made change. Then he showed him {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

Matthias De Meulder Going Up

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Matthias de Meulder
Matthias de Meulder

Matthias De Meulder won two significant pots in short succession, and he was kind enough to provide the details.

According to De Meulder, he called a squeeze in position in the first hand. The flop came {J-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-}. His opponent made a continuation bet of 7,000, and De Meulder called. The turn brought them the {9-Spades}. His opponent continued betting again and now led out for 18,000. De Meulder called again. The river was a {5-}, and his opponent shoved all-in for about 40,000. De Meulder called.

His opponent showed {J-}{J-} for a set of jacks, but De Meulder had him beat with {K-Spades}{10-Spades} for a flush.

Shortly thereafter, De Meulder raised to 2,700 from the cutoff, the player in the small blind three-bet to 8,000, and De Meulder called.

The flop was {J-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-}, on which both players checked. The turn brought them a {3-}, and his opponent check-called a bet of 13,000 from De Meulder. They both checked through the {6-} on the river. The other player showed {A-}{4-} off-suit, and again, De Meulder had his opponent bested with {7-Spades}{6-Spades}.

De Meulder is now playing with a healthy stack of about 290,000.

Hellmuth's Fall Complete

Niveau 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth had over 130,000 just before dinner break. The 100 minutes that followed the break have been anything but kind to "The Poker Brat", and he just lost the last of chips to complete the slide.

Dario Minieri opened to 2,500 in middle position, and Phil Hellmuth made it 7,500 to go on the button. Francois Pelletant called in the big blind, and Minieri folded, so they went heads-up to a {7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop. Pelletant came out betting 11,000, and Hellmuth immediately shoved all in for about 18,000. Pelletant called.

Hellmuth: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Pelletant: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

"Wow," was all Hellmuth could muster as he stared his Main Event elimination in the face.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}, leaving Hellmuth dead to a chop. The river was the {k-Clubs}.

After all the fire he spewed in the hands leading up to his final stand, Hellmuth took his exit with grace, shaking Pelletant's hand and heading for the exits without much to say.
