Big Stacks in Brasilia

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

A player in middle position opened and Zo Karim called in the cutoff. Le Tieu three-bet to 45,000 from the button and Karim was the only caller.

Karim checked the {q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} flop and Tieu continued for 60,000. Karim folded. Tieu started the day just inside the seven-figure mark, and bolstered his position with Karim's chips.

Sick Runout Sees Cappucci Double

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Jimmy Cappucci was all in for 71,000 in the hijack when we got to his table. The flop was {3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and there appeared to be about 150,000 already in the pot. In the big blind, Chris Convery announced a call after some thinking time.

Cappucci: {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Convery: {3-Spades}{2-Spades}

"I need a three a or a two," Convery observed, and he got just that on the {3-Clubs} turn.

However, the river was the {9-Clubs}, giving Cappucci nines full for a double.

Lisandro Busts Two on Main Feature Table

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Former WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Lisandro has taken out two of his opponents at the feature table a few hands into play today.

In the first hand, Manh Nguyen three-bet jammed for 70,000 with {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Jeff Lisandro put him at risk holding {a-Spades}{j-Spades}.

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{8-Spades} and Lisandro took the pot, sending his opponent to the rail.

Unfortunately, for Christian Iacobellis, he would join Nguyen soon after.

Iacobellis open-jammed on the button with {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, racing against Lisandro's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}. No help came on the {7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts} board and Lisandro added another stack to his own.

Liv Boeree Has One Pair Higher

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

The action was folded around to the cutoff who shoved all-in for his remaining 70,000 chips. Liv Boeree looked down at her cards in the big blind and moved a stack forward to call.

Boeree: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Opponent: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

Boeree had one pair higher than her opponent and would need to fade any seven on the board. The board ran out {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Boeree eliminated her opponent.

Melanie Weisner
Melanie Weisner

We found Melanie Weisner in middle position with a raise in front of her and then a couple of stray calling chips for a player who had shoved from the button.

Weisner: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, leaving the player with queens pumping his fist after the turn. Weisner sent him 218,000, which was more than two-thirds of her stack, leaving her with less than 20 big blinds.

Set-Over-Set Eliminates Charlie Godwin

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Charlie Godwin
Charlie Godwin

Charlie Godwin was headed to the payout desk and explained how she was eliminated in a set-over-set situation.

Godwin defended her big blind and managed to get her stack in the middle on a board reading {6-}{3-}{2-}. Godwin held a couple of deuces for bottom set, and two other players were all in also. Her opponents held pocket threes for a bigger set, and pocket fives for a straight draw and the potential to hit a bigger set.

We aren't sure about the run out, but Godwin lost the hand and is collecting her payout for a min-cash. On the positive side, Godwin is playing in her first Main Event and is clearly thrilled just to be here.

Adam Bonham Shoves on Timothy Adams

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

There was some previous action, but Timothy Adams was on the button and he raised to 97,000 preflop. Adam Bonham called.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades} and both players checked. They both checked again when the {j-Diamonds} came on the turn and Bonham checked a third time on the river when the {2-Hearts} paired the board on the river.

Adams bet 175,000 and Bonham went all in. He had Adams covered. Adams had a little more than 400,000 behind and tanked for more than a minute before folding.

Sanders Eliminated

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Michael Sanders was standing up with the dealer calling for a payout when we got to his table. As he told it, he ran ace-king into an opponent's pocket kings for half of his stack and then lost the rest shoving 10 big blinds over a Chino Rheem open with {a-}{10-}. Rheem called with {k-}{4-} and got there.

Under 1,000 Players Left in the Main Event

Niveau 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

"Limp in is ok," said Max Pescatori, as Romain Arki raised to 12,000 from the button. Pescatori called in the small blind, as did Dana Kellstrom in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{a-Spades} and Pescatori bet 12,000. Kellstrom folded and Arki called. The turn was the {2-Spades} and both players checked.

"Wow, would you look at that," remarked tablemate Gavin Smith, as the tournament clock updated the number of players to 999, "When this thing started did you really believe you would make it to the final 1,000 players?"

"No," said a tablemate, "I expected to bubble!"

The whole table laughed.

"Congratu-f***ing-lations everybody," said Smith.

Meanwhile, Pescatori had bet around 25,000 on the river {6-Diamonds} and Arki called. Pescatori mucked and Arki showed {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to win with a pair of aces.
