Mantas Petrauskas Tops Record-Breaking Day 1a of Winamax SISMIX Main Event

Niveau 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mantas Petrauskas
Mantas Petrauskas

A total of 256 players have been whittled down to just 51 on Day 1a of the fifth edition of the Winamax SISMIX Main Event. This denotes a 27% increase on last year's numbers and means the tournament looks set to increase its year-on-year total for the fourth time in a row.

Leading the way after 14 levels is Mantas Petrauskas (643,000), who emerged early on as a player to look out for. Towards the latter stages he was put under pressure by Olivier Marchet, however, in one of the final hands of the night, he doubled up an opponent. Marchet held ace-king against the tens of his opponent, and an ace on the flop looked like it would hand Marchet the chip lead by a handsome margin. However, the ten came on the turn to hand the chip lead to Presauskas and left Marchet (405,000) thinking what might have been.

Other big stacks include Mike Alonso (590,000), who was responsible for the first elimination on Day 1a, Laurent Lefevre (548,000), Abdeliah Belalia (534,000) and Bruno Mandagaran (478,000).

Several big names were in action today, some joining proceedings after their elimination from the High Roller, with Michel Abecassis (180,000), Alexandre Reard (142,000), Said El Yousfi and Winamax Team Pros Sylvain Loosli and Romain Lewis all jumping across.

Only Abecassis and Reard would make it through to Day 2, with El Yousfi, Loosli and Lewis busting, the latter after getting it in king-ten against pocket fours, and failing to win his flip. He, like Loosli, will be back tomorrow for Day 1b and another shot at making Day 2.

Others to play in Day 1a included Winamax Team Pros Gaelle Baumann and Adrien Delmas, along with Pierre-Antoine Quignard and Paul-Francois Tedeschi, all of whom are expected to try again tomorrow.

Day 1b gets underway at 12:00 local time tomorrow, with another 14 levels of play scheduled. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all the action from the Casino de Marrakech at the Es Saadi Resort.

Guigon Chips Up; Abecassis Forces Out Reard

On a {9-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board Sofiane Kasdar check-called a bet of 9,000 from Bernard Guigon and the turn {5-Clubs} was checked by both players. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Kasdar lead for 18,000. Guigon took his time before calling. Kasdar showed {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a pair of nines, but Guigon had that beat with {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for a pair of jacks.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Reard check-called a bet of 7,000 from Michel Abecassis on the {8-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board before check-calling a bet of 17,000 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. The river was the {j-Hearts} and Reard checked for a thirdt time. Abecassis unloaded the clip, moving all in for 70,000. Reard had around 60,000 behind and eventually folded.

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Loosli was eliminated, handing over his commemorative button saying that Deville "Knocked out Sylvain Loosli" as well as a voucher redeemable for a bottle of vodka or tequila in the TheatrO night club.

Alonso Falls Back While Petrauskas Soars

Niveau 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Mantas Petrauskas

Mike Alonso and Mantas Petrauskas' table was breaking, and it appeared that one had clearly handed chips over to the other. Alonso was once the chip leader with over 300,000 after eliminating Mike D'Inca earlier in the tournament, but had half that amount with Petrauskas taking over 400,000 to his new seat.

New Chip Leader; Calamusa Already Eyeing Up Final Table

Mike Alonso has dropped back from his peak, allowing Bruno Mandagaran to take over the chip lead with a stack in excess of 300,000. The Frenchman only has two Hendon Mob cashes, both in Morocco, from 2008 and 2009 and is well placed for another one.

Meanwhile, Pierre Calamusa is sitting on a healthy stack of 105,000; just over average. Calamusa is one of only six players wearing the hats gifted to them by Winamax at the start of the day, and we mentioned that to him.

"They are the final table," he said with a grin.

Alonso Over 300k Already!

Niveau 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Mike Alonso

It's been an incredible day so far for Mike Alonso; eliminating Philipp Anclevic for the first elimination of the day, and chipping up more over the course of the first six levels or so.

He's just sent Mike D'Inca to the rail as well. In a four-bet pot, the flop came king-high with three hearts. D'Inca checked to Alonso who bet. D'Inca check-raised, and then called an all in from Alonso.

D'Inca showed pocket kings for top set, but Alonso held {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a flopped flush. There was no help on the turn or river and D'Inca was eliminated, boosting Alonso's stack.

You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone with a bigger stack than Alonso's in the room right now, with the average only 85,000.

Lewis Enjoying Marrakech; High Roller Down to Two Tables

Niveau 8 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Romain Lewis
Romain Lewis

The Winamax SISMIX High Roller is down to two tables, and there is a veritable selection of poker talent still involved and looking to take down the title and ~€57,000 for first place.

Here is the table draw for the final two tables:

4Sonny FrancoGuillaume Deyez
5Arthur ConanRingo Stimac
6Nicolaus PaszkiewiczIvan Deyra

We caught up with Romain Lewis as he was taking a break after the two table redraw.

"The High Roller was going sweet," he said, "Until 18 left and I had 30 big blinds. Now there's 12 left."

Lewis is a Winamax Team Pro and has been coming to the Winamax SISMIX for the last three years, cashing in 2016 & 2017. He says that the tournament mixes poker with holiday really well.

"I know that they do a lot for online players; they do anything to make players happy to come. I know people who play online who do two live tournaments a year - the Winamax Poker Open in Dublin, and the Winamax SISMIX in Marrakech.

"They know that they will be well received and the tournaments are six-handed. Well, they're actually four or five-handed most of the time. You don't get six-handed tournaments that much anywhere."

The tournament also has special custom-made six-handed tables, and Lewis says they're very comfortable to play at!

"There's action all the time," he said. "That's why a lot of the players come to play here at these events. You're always in a hand and always active."

"And when you bust you have some more side events, but there's also beautiful Marrakech with pool parties and the TheatrO too. The sun is out; a lot of people will go and grind SCOOP after this, but it's also nice to come and relax and chill here.

The clue is in the name - Mix! There are pool parties and nights throughout the week, with different themes and styles of music. From house and hip-hop days, to ladies day and a special Live day.

Acts who have played over the week include Bakermat, DJ Angelo, Dual Beat, DJ James, Nicolas Monier, Stone Van Broken, Sara Lugo, Ayanne, Mymy, DJ Kol, Super Mana, Miss Owl and more.

Top Shark Academy Winner Adrien Delmas in the Field

Niveau 4 : 250/500, 75 ante
Adrien Delmas
Adrien Delmas

Adrien Delmas joined the Winamax Team Pro stable in January 2018 after winning his way through the Top Shark Academy. This seven-week long competition involved both poker and theory tests, making candidates prove their mettle against both their fellow candidates and established Winamax team Pros.

At the end of the competition, Delmas emerged triumphant and joined the Winamax Team for a year with a €50,000 package to play certain events throughout the year including both the High Roller and the Main Event here at the Winamax SISMIX.

Delmas had impressed on the live felt, even before he won the Top Shark Academy. In 2014, aged just 19, he finished 4th in the Winamax Poker Open Dublin Main Event for €28,569. Then, in 2016, he finished third 3rd in the Winamax SISMIX High Roller for 155,000 MAD ($15,835).

Finally, last year he took down the Winamax Poker Open Dublin High Roller for €35,370. Now seated in the SISMIX Main Event, it remains to be seen whether he will be Top Shark here in Marrakech.
