Who Will Win Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em Shootout and Claim the WSOP Bracelet?

WSOP Bracelet in the Thunderdome
WSOP Bracelet in the Thunderdome

Welcome back to Day 3 of Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em Shootout which will start at noon local time with the final 10 players in the third and final round of this popular format here at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker. The tournament attracted 313 entries in total from all over the world and that is noticeable with the six different countries that are represented on the final table. The winner will walk away with $207,193 and the gold WSOP bracelet.

There are three bracelet winners looking to add another one to their collection and the most well-known player is probably Justin Bonomo who will be aiming for his fourth. After an amazing 2018, Bonomo doesn’t look like he will be taking his foot off the gas pedal with two tournaments wins earlier this year and with his third WSOP cash in the pocket as every player is already guaranteed at least $12,937.

This is what they are all playing for:

Andrew Lichtenberger and Alexandru Papazian will be targeting their second career bracelet. Lichtenberger has had a pretty good summer already with this being his fourth cash and second final table. He finished second in the $50,000 High Roller earlier this month, losing heads-up against Ben Heath. Papazian, on the other hand, hasn’t cashed yet besides in this event but the number one in the Romanian all-time money list according to The Hendon Mob will be trying to make this another “Year of Romania”.

There are two more players representing the stars and stripes: David Lambard and Martin Zamani. There are two players trying to win the second bracelet for France this summer and twentieth overall. Adrien Delmas and Johan Guilbert. The United Kingdom has Ben Farrell, Slovenia sits with Jan Lakota, and China is competing for the bracelet with Weiyi Zhang.

When the players return at noon in the Amazon Room in the Thunderdome, they will start with the first level of the third round which features a small blind of 5,000, big blind of 10,000, and a big blind ante of 10,000. The levels will last 40 minutes again with a 15-minute break after every three levels. Play will continue until a winner has been crowned and the live stream can be followed on CBS All Access and PokerGO from 4 p.m. local time with the hole cards exposed.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the Shootout action as it happens without the delay so make sure to keep following the updates over here.

Papazian Thriving

Niveau 33 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Alexandru Papazian
Alexandru Papazian

Weiyi Zhang raised to 23,000 from early position and was called by Alexandru Papazian from two seats over and Martin Zamani in the big blind. On the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop, action checked to Papazian and he bet 21,000. Zamani made the call while Zhang got out of the way.

On the {3-Spades} turn, Zamani checked once more and Papazian now bet 126,000.

"A lot. Just curious, maybe there is a reason," Zamani said in table chat and called, trying to get any kind of reaction from his opponent.

The {4-Spades} on the river was checked through and Zamani turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair. Papazian had that beat with {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top two and claimed the pot, adding "that was the reason" with a grin on the face.

Guilbert Doubles Through Papazian

Niveau 34 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Johan Guilbert
Johan Guilbert

Johan Guilbert raised to 30,000 from mid-position and Alexandru Papazian called in the big blind.

Papazian check-raised Guilbert's continuation-bet of 12,000 to 42,000 on the {4-Spades}{q-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop and Guilbert called.

The turn brought them the {q-Hearts}, Papazian checked again and Guilbert bet 57,000. Papazian raised to 150,000 and Guilbert looked at his cards once more, counted out the rest of his stack before making the call in the end.

The river completed the board with the {3-Clubs} and Papazian shoved with the bigger stack which Guilbert snap-called.

Papazian resignedly tabled {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for two pair, queens and fours with the ace-kicker. Guilbert quickly got up from his seat and flipped over {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for the turned trip queens to double up.

The dealer counted out his stack and confirmed Guilbert had 299,000 behind, kicking Guilbert into the chip lead and leaving Papazian behind with just under 450,000.

Justin Bonomo Eliminated in 10th Place ($12,937)

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Ben Farrell raised to 35,000 from mid-position and action folded to Justin Bonomo in the big blind who decided to shove for around 240,000. Farrell quickly called.

Justin Bonomo: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Ben Farrell: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The flop came {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for Farrell to flop top pair immediately.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} which didn't change the situation and meant that only another nine on the river could save Bonomo's tournament life.

The river completed the board with the {10-Clubs} which meant Farrell improved to a Broadway to seal Bonomo's fate and send him to the payout desk to collect $12,937 for finishing in tenth place.

Lakota Leaves Zamani Behind with Almost Nothing

Jan Lakota
Jan Lakota

Jan Lakota limped in from under the gun and Martin Zamani raised to 100,000. Action folded back to Lakota who counted out his stack and then decided to three-bet to 240,000 which sent Zamani into the tank. Zamani contemplated for a while before deciding to shove. Lakota snap-called.

Jan Lakota: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Martin Zamani: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The board ran out {j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for Lakota to turn a set to leave Zamani drawing dead on the river.

Zamani was ready to go but the stacks were counted out as they were close. Lakota had 575,000 behind and Zamani was left with 35,000 after paying out the double-up.

Martin Zamani Eliminated in 9th Place ($16,586)

Martin Zamani

Down to his last 35,000, Martin Zamani moved all in first to act and David Lambard raised to 80,000 on the button. That forced folds from the big stacks Johan Guilbert and Andrew Lichtenberger in the blinds and the cards were on their backs.

Martin Zamani: {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
David Lambard: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop all but sealed the fate of Zamani and the {6-Diamonds} turn and {k-Spades} river run out gave Lambard quads. Zamani takes home $16,586 for his 9th place finish and the remaining eight players are now being mic'd up for the live stream action. After a short break, the live updates will continue with hand-for-hand coverage until a winner is crowned.

Weiyi Zhang eliminated Adrien Delmas in eighth place

Hand #20: Weiyi Zhang raised to 70,000 and Adrien Delmas jammed for 385,000 from one seat over. Zhang asked for a count and made the call.

Adrien Delmas: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Weiyi Zhang: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Zhang a flush draw and he improved to top pair with the {q-Hearts} on the turn. Delmas only had two outs remaining, which he bricked as the {q-Clubs} river further improved Zhang to trips queens. Delmas was eliminated in 8th place and takes home $21,501.

Hand #38: Farrell shoved for 450,000 from under the gun and David Lambard also shoved with the bigger stack for the rest of the table to fold.

Ben Farrell: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
David Lambard: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs} for Farrell to flop a pair of tens.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} to not change the situation. Only another ten or ace could save Farrell's tournament life but he bricked the river as the {j-Clubs} fell to complete the board and keep Lambard ahead.

The Brit was sent to the rail in sixth place for $37,341.

Hand #51: Jan Lakota moved all in for 630,000 on the button and David Lambard went all in over the top from the small blind for two times as much to isolate successfully.

Jan Lakota: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
David Lambard: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

There was an uproar on the rail when the {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop gave Lambard a flush draw. Although Lakota faded spades on the {a-Clubs} turn, he failed to do so on the {4-Spades} river as Lambard filled up to the nut flush. Lakota was eliminated in 5th place and receives $50,016 for his efforts.
