WSOP Bracelet in the Thunderdome

Welcome back to Day 3 of Event #36: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’Em Shootout which will start at noon local time with the final 10 players in the third and final round of this popular format here at the 50th Annual World Series of Poker. The tournament attracted 313 entries in total from all over the world and that is noticeable with the six different countries that are represented on the final table. The winner will walk away with $207,193 and the gold WSOP bracelet.

There are three bracelet winners looking to add another one to their collection and the most well-known player is probably Justin Bonomo who will be aiming for his fourth. After an amazing 2018, Bonomo doesn’t look like he will be taking his foot off the gas pedal with two tournaments wins earlier this year and with his third WSOP cash in the pocket as every player is already guaranteed at least $12,937.

This is what they are all playing for:

Andrew Lichtenberger and Alexandru Papazian will be targeting their second career bracelet. Lichtenberger has had a pretty good summer already with this being his fourth cash and second final table. He finished second in the $50,000 High Roller earlier this month, losing heads-up against Ben Heath. Papazian, on the other hand, hasn’t cashed yet besides in this event but the number one in the Romanian all-time money list according to The Hendon Mob will be trying to make this another “Year of Romania”.

There are two more players representing the stars and stripes: David Lambard and Martin Zamani. There are two players trying to win the second bracelet for France this summer and twentieth overall. Adrien Delmas and Johan Guilbert. The United Kingdom has Ben Farrell, Slovenia sits with Jan Lakota, and China is competing for the bracelet with Weiyi Zhang.

When the players return at noon in the Amazon Room in the Thunderdome, they will start with the first level of the third round which features a small blind of 5,000, big blind of 10,000, and a big blind ante of 10,000. The levels will last 40 minutes again with a 15-minute break after every three levels. Play will continue until a winner has been crowned and the live stream can be followed on CBS All Access and PokerGO from 4 p.m. local time with the hole cards exposed.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the Shootout action as it happens without the delay so make sure to keep following the updates over here.

Papazian Draws First Blood

Niveau 33 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

In the first hand of the day, Jan Lakota raised to 25,000 from the early position and action folded to Alexandru Papazian in the big blind who made the call.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, Papazian check-called the 20,000 continuation-bet of Lakota.

The turn was the {a-Hearts} and Papazian checked again. Lakota took a few seconds and decided to continue with a bet of 60,000 which Papazian called.

The {4-Hearts} completed the board on the river and Papazian glanced at Lakota, he then decided to check. Lakota decided to do the same and mucked when he saw Papazian held {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for the turned trip aces.

Zamani Wins a Big One Off Farrell

Niveau 33 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Martin Zamani
Martin Zamani

Martin Zamani limped in and Weiyi Zhang raised to 32,000 in the cutoff, Ben Farrell called in the big blind and Zamani made it three ways to the {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop. The action checked around and the {8-Hearts} followed on the turn. Farrell now bet 75,000 and Zamani called, Zhang got out of the way.

On the {6-Clubs} river, Farrell bet 100,000 and Zamani started some table chat.

"Hello. How are you? Reasonable?" were the first few words and suddenly everyone turned around as a spectator had tripped on the rail. The focus shifted for a few seconds and Zamani then called after a minute of consideration.

Farrell showed {9-Spades}{6-Spades} for a straight and Zamani turned over his {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} with the words "I don't have much."

Farrell, with a dry voice, replied "just a full house."

Lichtenberger Raises Guilbert

Niveau 33 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Andrew Lichtenberger raised to 20,000 from under the gun and Johan Guilbert was the only one to make the call from the big blind.

The flop came {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Guilbert quickly bet 10,000 and Lichtenberger called.

Guilbert then quickly bet another 10,000 which Lichtenberger called on the {2-Diamonds} on the turn to see the {10-Clubs} complete the board. Guilbert flicked in another 10,000 bet but Lichtenberger raised to 125,000. Guilbert smiled and then stared at Lichtenberger for a while to see if he could find any tells. He even glanced underneath the table to look at Lichtenberger's legs. Guilbert looked at his cards twice more before opting to fold.

"Nice hand," Guilbert commented before rapping the table.

"Thank you," Lichtenberger said dryly.

Alexandru Papazian

Weiyi Zhang raised to 23,000 from early position and was called by Alexandru Papazian from two seats over and Martin Zamani in the big blind. On the {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop, action checked to Papazian and he bet 21,000. Zamani made the call while Zhang got out of the way.

On the {3-Spades} turn, Zamani checked once more and Papazian now bet 126,000.

"A lot. Just curious, maybe there is a reason," Zamani said in table chat and called, trying to get any kind of reaction from his opponent.

The {4-Spades} on the river was checked through and Zamani turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair. Papazian had that beat with {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top two and claimed the pot, adding "that was the reason" with a grin on the face.
