Katchalov at the Double

Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

Eugene Katchalov looked down at his shoving stack and got it all over the line for 225,000 from late position. Thomas Miller called it off and turned over {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} .

Miller was marginally behind Katchalov's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and stayed there as the board ran out {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to double up the Ukrainian New Yorker to 465,000. Miller still has around 370,000.

Mortensen on a Heater

Niveau 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Morten Mortensen
Morten Mortensen

We joined the action on the river as Morten Mortensen was easing his chips-stack into the middle after an all-in from Pavel Veksler. The board read {5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{A-Spades}{J-Clubs} and while Veksler had rivered two-pair with the {J-Spades}{8-Spades} , Mortensen had rivered the straight, holding {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} .

The Danish pro was down to just 15 big blinds not too long ago, but after a raise and take in the next hand, he has just crept over the million-chip mark.

Luth Doubles Shalamov

Niveau 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Mikhail Shalamov
Mikhail Shalamov

PokerStars Team Online Pro Mikhail Shalamov moved all-in from the button for 325,000 with {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and was called by German player Peyman Luth in the big blind with {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} .

The flop of {5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades} kept Luth ahead, as did the {8-Diamonds} turn, but the {8-Clubs} river counterfeited his hand and Shalamov's ace kicker played. Shalamov, who until that moment had been utterly silent, stood up and gave his hands such a clap that many players in the tournament room might have assumed thunder was overhead. Shalamov has a smile back on his face, while Luth grimaces as he slips well below the average.

Mark Roovers Eliminated By Nuno Capucho

Nuno Capucho Eliminates Mark Roovers
Nuno Capucho Eliminates Mark Roovers

A few orbits earlier, Mark Roovers lost a chunk of his stack with {A-}{10-} versus a shove from Chebli Chebli. The Lebanese held {A-}{J-} and took a big bite out of Roovers.

With his remaining 130,000, Roovers open-shoved from the cutoff and got a call from Nuno Capucho in the small blind.

Mark Roovers: {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Nuno Capucho: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

The flop was {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, solidifying Capucho's lead in the hand. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and Roovers called for a jack on the river. Unfortunately for him, it was the {9-Spades}, ending his nice run in the EPT Barcelona Main Event.

Lofberg Busts Another as Luth Gets Paid

Niveau 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Simon Lofberg
Simon Lofberg

Peyman Luth has departed the Main Event here in Barcelona, after moving all-in for just 201,000 in the hijack position. Simon Lofberg (pictured) in the cut off moved all-in too, but for over a million chips. After the blinds got out of the way, he was a little ahead of his German opponent.

Peyman Luth: {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Simon Lofberg: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board of {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} saw Luth on his way out of the room. Lofberg has over 1.4 million chips and looks in the mood for more.

Bryn Kenney Busts to Sebastian Malec

Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

The cards of Bryn Kenney were already in the muck and the dealer announced the seat open while Sebastian Malec was stacking chips. Michael Eiler confirmed what happened. Malec had raised the button and Kenney three-bet all in from the big blind with pocket fives for almost exactly 20 big blinds.

Malec snap-called with the {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} and the board ran out {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts} to eliminate Kenney. The American will most likely jump right back into the action and join the €10,000 High Roller, though.

Mortensen and Mercier

Niveau 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Playing just the first hand at the new blind level before the table is chopped, we saw Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier and Danish player Morten Mortensen get involved.

Pre-flop, Mortensen opened to 38,000 from middle position, and in the hijack position, Mercier made it 117,000. Mortensen seemed undeterred, and so it proved as he re-raised to 248,000. A smooth call from Mercier and we saw a flop of {10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, which both players checked.

The turn of {J-Hearts} led to a bet of 191,000 from Mortensen, and that was enough for Mercier to eventually lay it down.

"I finished 10th here four years ago," Mortensen was telling us at the break. "It would be cool to go further in a record-breaking field."

He's taking steady steps towards making that a reality... but there is a very long way to go. Mercier will remain a danger on whichever table he ends up.

Autiö Topples Eiler In Huge Cooler

Niveau 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Olli Autiö
Olli Autiö

Olli Autiö raised preflop from middle position, Aram Sargsyan called on the button, and Michael Eiler called from the small blind. The flop was {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and Eiler checked. Autiö continued with 40,000, Sargsyan called on the button, then Eiler put in a check-raise to 156,000. Autiö took around a minute before making the call, and Sargsyan folded.

On the {2-Hearts} turn, Eiler continued his aggression with a bet of 224,000. Autiö took around two minutes before sliding in another call. The river was the {5-Hearts}, double-pairing the board. Eiler checked and Autiö moved all in. It was for Eiler's remaining stack of 330,000, and the German called it off right away.

Olli Autiö: {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}
Michael Eiler: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

It was a massive set-up for Eiler, who's tournament life suddenly came to an end. Eiler kept his composure and wished his tablemates good luck on his way to the payout desk.

Markus Durnegger made it 35,000 from the button. Eugene Katchalov shoved for around 350,000 with {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} from the small blind and Durnegger called it off with {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

The board of {6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} saw Katchalov out of his seat out of his seat on the flop and shaking hands by the river. Durnegger continues to build an impressive stack.
