The second day of the $10,300 Super High Roller has come to an end at the 2023 PokerStars North American Poker Tour Las Vegas and David Stamm bagged the chip lead after another 10 levels of play. All six players will return on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. to play for a top prize of $174,550.

The tournament drew a total of 59 players for a prize pool of $572,300 after 23 players registered at the beginning of Day 2. The late runners added to the 36 entries from Day 1 and they joined 16 remaining players.

Sam Soverel follows in second while Jim Collopy is in the third spot on the leaderboard. Jesse Lonis and Sergio Aido are in fourth and fifth and Richard Green rounds out the top six.

Stamm Battles Back; Lonis Stays Hot

The list of late runners that joined on Day 2 was a queue of notable players, including Seth Davies, Pete Chen, John Morgan, John Hennigan, Ethan “Rampage” Yau, Nick Schulman, Andrew Lichtenberger, Kristen Foxen, Michael Wang, and WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess. However, the lone player from the field of late entries who will return for Day 2 is the chip leader.

Stamm played on Day 1 and he could not find a bag, but he returned for late registration at the start of Day 2 with much better luck. It was steady going all day for Stamm, but he made his move in the late levels with a series of double-ups that took him from 64,000 to over 600,000 in a matter of minutes. He eventually crossed the one-million mark, but Stamm will return with 852,000 for Day 3 and a chance to add to his $1.3 million in career earnings with a win at the first NAPT in 12 years.

Lonis will also return with 374,000 and a chance to add more accolades to what is already a career year. It’s been a torrid 2023 for the young pro, who started his 2023 with a run to 36th in the PCA Main Event and a win in the $10,200 PSPC Warm Up. He also cashed 17 times at the 2023 WSOP, including a win for his second gold bracelet in the $50,000 PLO High Roller. Lonis picked up his first in September of 2022 in the $1,000 NLH 6-Max during the WSOP Online series.

Aido, the Day 1 chip leader, remains with a bag of 354,000 for Day 3. Aido has several cashes in 2023, including five at the WSOP, but he is looking for his first six-figure score of the year.

The man with no shortage of six-figure scores in 2023 is Collopy, who won the $1,500 Omaha 8 event at this year’s WSOP. Collopy has just over $6 million in career earnings, according to the Hendon Mob. Soverel, who has over $22 million in career earnings, will return in second place after a late run up the leaderboard.

Final Table Highlights

The final nine players broke into the unofficial final table for bubble play with eight players slated to be paid a min-cash of $22,890. It was Alex Milgrom who couldn’t survive the bubble after a big hand with Morgan left him with crumbs. Morgan had pocket nines against the kings of Milgrom, but a river nine sent put the Frenchman on the ropes and he was gone just before the players broke for dinner.

The final eight players returned and Shannon Shorr was the first to go when his Big Slick couldn’t improve against the pocket kings of Soverel. Shorr hit the rail in eighth place for $22,890, capping off a recent stretch that saw him win his first two WSOP gold bracelets in the recent online series.

Morgan was lively in final table play, but he couldn’t get it going before he got the last of his dwindling stack in with a suited queen-eight. Green called with ace-queen, and Morgan was out in seventh place for $28,615. The Minnesota native added a few bucks to his $1.1 million in career tournament winnings.

The final six players battled it out for the final two levels without an elimination, and Stamm moved into the lead after his impressive run.

They will return on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. with blinds at 10,000/15,000/15,000 to play down to a winner.

Alex Milgrom opened to 15,000 in middle position and John Morgan three-bet jammed a stack of around 60,000 in the cutoff as Milgrom got up and grabbed his shoulder bag.

"Well I have to get up first," he said before calling.

John Morgan: 99
Alex Milgrom: KK

Morgan had run into kings and was at serious risk of being eliminated on the money bubble as the flop landed 855 and the A turn brought no help. Milgrom then led out a yelp as the river brought the 9 to give Morgan nines full of fives for a miracle double.

"That's how I run!" cheered Morgan.

"How do you do that shit?" Milgrom groaned as he was left with crumbs.

"I've been working on it for a long time. I've been working on that since before you were born!"
