Jour 2 a débuté
The penultimate day of the HK$1,000,000 Triton Super High Roller Series 2017 Montenegro Main Event is set to start at 1pm CET. So far 25 players have locked up their Day 2 seat out of a starting field of 47, but with registration open until the end of level 10 at 2pm local time, this figure could well increase.
While there were only 27 unique entries the star-studded field was feeling flush with cash with nine of the field opted for a another bite of the cherry when the cards failed to fall their way. Two of these seven – Germany’s Dominik Nitsche and Triton co-founder Paul Phua – fired not twice but thrice to bring the total number of entries up to 47.
At present, it is the man they call Shanghai Wang – Wang Qiang – who is leading the charge after bagging up a massive 1,040,000 in chips, the only player to break the seven-figure chip mark.
Qiang’s next closest rival is Belarusian Mikita Badziakouski who finished the day on 843,000 after dominating much of the Day 1 early action, with Greece’s Antonios Paschalidis rounding out the top three with a stack of 830,000.
Other notables to make it through including Daniel ‘jungleman’ Cates (776,000), the United Kingdom’s Sam Trickett (710,000), German wunderkind Fedor Holz (386,000) and 2016 Global Poker Index Player of the Year David Peters (249,000) though the latter two had to fire twice to make it through.
Defending champion Koray Aldemir (146,000) and former champion Wai Kin Yong (247,000) are amongst the hopefuls that will return for Day 2 with the seat draw as follows:

The action re-commences at level 10 with blinds coming starting at 4,000/8,000 with a 1,000 running ante and will not stop until the official nine-handed final table is reached, though play will be eight-handed for the majority of the day.
As usual, the PokerNews live reporting team will be on hand to bring you all the action as it happens so watch this space as we see who’s got what it takes to successfully traverse the road to the final table.

The cards are now in motion and the number of entries has grown to 50 with 28 players still in contention. Both John Juanda and Paul Phua have re-entered, Juanda for the second time and Phua for the third and we have a new challenger in the form of Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan, a player who should need no introduction.
Dwan has just taken his seat on a table that looks primed for action, featuring defending champion Koray Aldemir, Steffen Sontheimer, Sam Trickett and most interestingly of all Daniel ‘jungleman’ Cates, though we are pretty sure that none of the hands played between the two will count towards the Durrrr Challenge.

Shanghai Wang has started Day 2 and he finished Day 1 and has gunned down yet another big name player with Steve O’Dwyer the man in Wang Qiang’s crosshairs this time around.
Qiang (late position) and O’Dwyer (small blind] became involved in a raising war that saw all the chips go in pre-flop with O’Dwyer the man to pull the final trigger, moving all-in as a five-bet shove for around 50 big blinds with .
Unfortunately for O’Dwyer, Qiang was holding and called immediately and the board ran out and with neither player holding a diamond Qiang’s cowboys shot down O’Dwyer’s pocket tens and he headed for the rail for the second time, though with registration still open until the end of the level he can still re-enter for the third time should he so desire.
That pot saw Qiang further cement his lead and he stacked up to 1.5 million in chips.

Defending champion Koray Aldermir opened the action with a mid-position raise to 17,000 and Steffen Sontheimer re-raised to 50,000 in total. Action folded around to Sam Trickett in the small blind who had both players covered and looked sorely tempted but eventually elected to let it go after a few seconds in the tank.
With the action back on Aldermir he quickly moved his last 170,000 chips into the middle and Sontheimer called immediately.
Korey Aldemir:
Steffen Sontheimer:
“Arghh!” exclaimed Trickett when he saw both players had ace-king, “I folded pocket sevens.”
Needless to say the British pro was distinctly unimpressed when the flop came down .
“Man, I wish I’d just blown up there,” Trickett said with a sigh.
With both Aldemir and Sontheimer holding the same hand a chop was the most likely outcome, but the turn saw Aldemir pick up a diamond flush draw which duly came in when the hit the river to give him the double and he climbed to 380,000 while Sontheimer took a hit and dropped down to 305,000.

The number of re-entries has now increased to 52 with 29 players still in the running. Gabe Patgorski is one of the newcomers, the US player entering for the first time and Steve O’Dwyer has chosen to fire a third bullet.
Tom Dwan has yet to get anything going and his 250,000 start stack has dwindled to 125,000 though we have yet to catch him in action.
Two players who we did though were Alexandros Kolonias and Dominik Nitsche. It was Kolonias who was the initial aggressor, making it 18,000 to go from the button and Nitsche (big blind0 moved all-in for 176,000 in total.
Kolonias thought it over for a minute or so but made the call and the cards were turned over.
Dominik Nitsche:
Alexandros Kolonias:
Nitsche was the at-risk player but had the best hand and both players caught a piece of the flop. The turn kept Nitsche’s nose in front and the river saw the German player lock in the double and climb to 352,000 while Kolonias dropped to 105,000.
Chip leader Wang Qiang is continuing to amass chips and we caught the Chinese player involved in a hand against Montenegro’s Predrag Lekovic, picking up the action on the turn with over 100,000 in blinds and antes in the pot and the community cards spread .
First to act, Lekovic led for 55,000 and Qiang chewed over the decision for a little while before making the call. The river paired the board and brought a quick check from Lekovic and after thinking for a few seconds Qiang checked it back.
Lekovic rolled over for ace-high, which was not enough to best Qiang’s and the Chinese player scooped another, climbing to over 2 million in chips while Lekovic dropped to 340,000.

The start of level 11 means the re-entry period is now over so any players busting from this point onwards will be out for good, with no second (or third chances).
The field is now thinning out with both Steve O’Dwyer and Koray Aldemir departing in a flurry of cards and chips. O’Dwyer became the first official casualty after getting all the chips in pre-flop with ace-king and found himself racing for his tournament life against the pocket fours of Wang Qiang.
Unfortunately for O’Dwyer he was unable to pair his ace or king and fell at the hands of Qiang for the second time today, though with the re-entry period now over, this will be the last time as well, at least for this particular tournament.
We caught Aldemir’s exit after arriving at the tail end of a hand between the defending champion and Dan Cates. We picked up the action on the river with the community cards spread just as Aldemir moved all-in for his last 130,000 into an already sizable pot.
Cates called instantly and while Aldemir turned over for the flush this was not enough to beat Cate’s turned boat as the US player was holding and Aldemir headed for the rail while Cates stacked up to 905,000.
