Arends Rivers a Pair to Eliminate Kenney

Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney was the short stack in the room and pushed all in for his last 350,000 in the cutoff. Freddy Deeb called from the small blind and Jans Arends came along from the big blind.

The flop came 1064 and both players checked to the 2 on the turn. Deeb led out with a bet of 350,000 and Arends called to create a side pot. The Q landed on the river and Deeb checked this time. Arends announced a bet of 650,000 and Deeb used a time bank before mucking his cards.

Arends collected the side pot and showed Q8 for the main pot. Kenney was left with A8 for just ace-high and Arends scooped everything.

Aldemir Puts Bonomo in the Blender

Niveau 16 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

A completed board of AKQ69 was spread across the felt with Koray Aldemir and Justin Bonomo heads-up in the blinds. There was around 700,000 in the pot and Aldemir checked to Bonomo who bet 600,000.

Aldemir check-raised all in for 2,080,000 and Bonomo was left with a decision for his last 1,200,000 chips. Bonomo went deep into the tank for over two minutes with his head in his hands while Aldemir turned to the side to face away from his opponent. Bonomo eventually decided to fold and both players took a deep breath but it was Aldemir raking in the pot.

Katz Powers Up on River

Niveau 16 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Cary Katz raised 160,000 under the gun and received a call from Jonathan Jaffe in the small blind.

The dealer fanned 2J9 on the flop, which Jaffe checked. Katz bet 100,000 and Jaffe quickly called.

The turn saw 6, and things got interesting. After Jaffe checked, Katz asked for a chip count.

“About 1,200,000,” Jaffe replied after counting his stack.

Katz then checked behind, prompting the dealer to place K on the river.

Jaffe led out 260,000, which saw Katz come over the top with an all-in bet for 1,800,000, which had Jaffe covered.

Katz’s move put Jaffe in the blender, as he used two time bank chips to ponder the situation before he eventually folded.

Foxen and Winter No More

Niveau 16 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Alex Foxen shipped all in for 305,000 in middle position and Justin Bonomo looked him up from the cutoff.

Alex Foxen: Q9
Justin Bonomo: A7

The board ran out KJ886 and Foxen was unable to connect with the board as he exited the tournament area.

Nearby, Yang Wang raised to 200,000 on the button and Sean Winter shoved all in for 600,000 in the small blind. Wang called and tabled K10 against the 77 of Winter.

It was a king on the K43 flop that gave Wang the lead that he would not relinquish, sending Winter home as well.

"Sometimes the charts fuck you," Winter said on his way out.

Phil Galfond Offers Poker Hall of Fame Pick; Says Two Should Be Inducted Per Year

Niveau 16 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.

“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.

While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”

One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.

“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.
