Eldabach Claims Overall Lead After Day 1b; Peters and Zerjav Among Big Stacks

Niveau 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Dorel Eldabach
Dorel Eldabach

The second and final starting day of Event #2: €550 Pot-Limit Omaha attracted a large field in Europe's biggest poker arena at the King's Resort in Rozvadov. After 199 entries on the first flight the day prior, a strong turnout more than doubled that tally as 424 entries were recorded on the final starting day. That brought the total field up to 623 entries and created an overall prize pool of €295,925.

The lion's share of that, $264,910 to be exact, will be up for grabs in the upcoming two days as the second gold bracelet event of the 2021 World Series of Poker Europe will play down to a champion. Only 43 players survived Day 1b and they will join the 19 contenders of Day 1a to battle for their chance at claiming live poker's most coveted prize.

Dorel Eldabach claimed the Day 1b and overall lead after accumulating 625,000 in chips. The King's regular and Pot-Limit Omaha specialist has eight WSOP cashes to his name, most notably a runner-up finish in the 2020 GGPoker.com Event #62: $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha for $168,478. Eldabach surpassed Bjorn Verbakel (609,000), Ken Beckers (551,000) and Ugur Coskun (514,000) on the overnight leaderboard as the only four players with more than half a million in chips.

Big stacks after Day 1b also belong to Tobias Peters, Blaz Zerjav, Saulius Tumosa and Jose Obadia. Peters was forced to re-enter and steadily built his stack from there on out and notched up large pots with the eliminations of Simon Taberham and Florian Sarnow. Likewise, Zerjav thrived after a late surge when he first doubled and then knocked out Pierre Mothes.

Lithuania's Tumosa was involved in the action on the money bubble and ensured a min-cash of €900 for nearly two dozen players when he sent Nicola Angelini to the rail on the money bubble.

Other notables to advance from Day 1b include Michael Magalashvili, Quirin Zech, David Hu, and Aliaksandr Shylko. A trio of WSOP bracelet winners also made it through as Martin Kabrhel, Sebastian Langrock and Stoyan Madanzhiev bagged and tagged for the night. Kabrhel fired multiple bullets before running up a stack but was one of the players at risk right before the money bubble.

Once the min-cash of €900 was secured, 21 players collected payouts in the final two levels of the night including notables such as Andriy Lyubovetskiy, Dario Alioto, Danny Covyn, and Tomasz Gluszko. Alioto cashed on both Day 1s but failed to make the cut in his bid for a potential second gold bracelet.

Peters Busts Sarnow in Bigger Pot

Florian Sarnow

Three ways to the {8-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{k-Clubs} turn, Tobias Peters faced the bet of 20,000 by Florian Sarnow and the call of Nikolaos Lampropoulos. Peters on the button raised the pot and Sarnow then called all-in for 95,000, while Lampropoulos reluctantly folded.

Florian Sarnow: {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Tobias Peters: {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Sarnow's wrap and flush draw had plenty of outs albeit the club draw was no good. He bricked the {q-Spades} river and Peters soared to the top of the leaderboard.

Martin Kabrhel raised to 5,600 and was called by Abdelhakim Zoufri. Jose Obadia then three-bet the pot to 24,600 and Kabrhel jammed for 25,000, Zoufri folded.

Schakeri Folds Winning Hand; Mrakes Doubles

Niveau 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Michal Mrakes
Michal Mrakes

With around 31,000 in the middle and a completed board of {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades} showing, Robert Mosonyi and Schayan Schakeri checked over to Michal Mrakes, who jammed for 20,000 from an early position. Mosonyi tank-called in the small blind and Schakeri was sent into the tank.

He eventually folded, putting Mosonyi on ten-eight for a straight. Mrakes tabled the {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for a set of jacks and doubled, as Mosonyi only had the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Schakeri flashed {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{x-} for the top set and would have knocked out Mrakes.

Picking up the action on the {k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop, Simon Taberham bet 10,000 out of the small blind and Tobias Peters called in the hijack. Taberham bet another 22,000 on the {j-Hearts} turn to earn a call and then jammed the {8-Spades} river for around 65,000.

"I have to call," Peters said while he was enjoying a massage. Taberham flipped over {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades} for aces up but Peters had that beat with the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for a full house, eights over kings.

Mikkel Plum and Simon Taberham were on the brink of elimination shortly after the dinner break but spun up their short stacks. In the meanwhile, Adrian Kyiak saw his stack reduced and he eventually got it in preflop out of the blinds against Taberham.

Hansson Goes Runner-Runner for the Wheel

Valter Hansson
Valter Hansson

In what started as a limped pot, Valter Hansson out of the small blind and Önder Yavuz in the big blind repotted to get some 15,300 each into the middle. They headed to the {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop on which Hansson jammed for 18,200 and Yavuz called with the covering stack by one big blind.

"He has kings," Yavuz predicted but Ricardas Vymeris on the button replied "no, I folded kings."

Valter Hansson: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Hearts} - not kings
Önder Yavuz - aces and a gutshot

The {4-Diamonds} turn gave Hansson unexpected outs and he got there with the {5-Spades} river. Yavuz had some 800 chips left, which he lost the next hand.
