Negreanu Wins with Overbet Jam in Back-and-Forth Tussle with Rabichow

Daniel Negreanu and Kevin Rabichow have been engaging in one of the more entertaining matches of the tournament, trading the chip lead several times in the first two-and-a-half hours of play.

With 12,000 chips in the middle and {q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} on the board, Rabichow's bet of 8,000 was called by Negreanu.

After the {9-Spades} came out, Negreanu elected to overbet jam with his remaining 70,000 chips. Rabichow quickly folded.

Smith Defeats Rocco to Advance

According to a spectator, John Smith had a small chip advantage over Michael Rocco to start the hand.

Although the full action is unknown, it was said that Rocco had jammed on the river on the {k-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Spades} board and Smith called.

Rocco apparently could only turn over {7-}{4-}, while Smith tabled {k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for two pair to advance to the next round where he will face Ali Imsirovic.

Jaka into the Second Round, Defeating Danchev on Huge River Jam

Faraz Jaka is into the second round after taking down Dimitar Danchev.

With the pot already looming around 80,000, Jaka put Danchev all-in for his remaining 65,000 chips on the {3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} board.

Danchev then distressingly debated the decision for over four minutes, sucking through his teeth while going over the hand in his head.

Finally, Danchev came to a call. After Jaka showed his {q-Spades}{9-Spades}, the Bulgarian mucked his cards and shook Jaka's hand.

Sammartino Inches Ahead of Steinberg

With 6,000 in the middle on the flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, Matthew Steinberg bet 5,000 on the button. Dario Sammartino check-raised to 12,000 only to have Steinberg three-bet to 32,000. Sammartino called and the {a-Spades} rolled off on the turn.

Sammartino checked and Steinberg dropped in a bet of 35,000. Sammartino deliberated for a minute before jamming all in for 72,300. Steinberg took a minute as well but decided to send his cards to the muck.

Brewer Defeats Keating

Alex Keating opened to 4,000 on the button and Chris Brewer three-bet to 16,000 in the big blind. Keating responded with a four-bet shove for just under 85,000 and Brewer called it off.

Alex Keating: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Chris Brewer: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} to give Brewer the lead with a pair of queens. The {5-Clubs} and {j-Hearts} runout provided no help to Keating who was eliminated.

Ivey Spikes River King to Eliminate Puustinen

Phil Ivey is into the second round after taking down 2021 semi-finalist Henri Puustinen.

After whittling down Puustinen to his remaining 28,000 chips, Ivey was on the right side of an all-in preflop flip to punch his ticket to the round-of-32.

Puustinen raised to 5,000, Ivey moved all-in and was snap-called. Ivey turned over {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} while Puustinen showed {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

The flop came {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The {9-Clubs} turn gave Ivey a flush draw that he didn't need as he spiked the {k-Diamonds} to send Puustinen packing.

Ramos Out, Leonard Short

Patrick Leonard limped in on the button and Marius Gierse made it 7,000 to go from the big blind. Leonard called and the flop came {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}. Gierse continued for 7,000 and Leonard called to see the {j-Clubs} on the turn.

Gierse fired out another bet of 14,000 and Leonard still called. The river was the {3-Spades} and Gierse shoved all in. Leonard went into the tank for a couple of minutes, discussing out loud all of Gierse's possible holdings. Eventually, Leonard laid his hand down and Gierse showed the {8-Clubs}.

At the same table, Chance Kornuth and Felipe Ramos saw a flop of {q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}. All of the chips got in the middle with Ramos being the player at risk.

Felipe Ramos: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Chance Kornuth: {5-Spades}{3-Spades}

The {7-Hearts} on the turn was safe for Ramos who was looking to dodge plenty of cards. However, the {a-Clubs} on the river gave Kornuth a straight and Ramos was eliminated.

Kempton Eliminates Klein to Advance to the Second Round

Isaac Kempton is through to the round-of-32 after eliminating Bill Klein.

With {a-Spades}{5-Spades}, Klein's last 27,500 went into the middle against Kempton's {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

The board was not kind as Klein failed to improve on the {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} board, sending him to the rails and putting the Delaware native into the next round.
